Taylor
On and On Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say Taylor was a good girl, never one to be late
Complain, express ideas in her brain
Working on the night shift, passing out the tickets
You're gonna have to pay her if you want to park here

Well mommy's little dancer is quite a little secret
Working on the streets now, never gonna keep it
It's quite an imposition and now she's only wishin'
That she would have listened to the words they said
Poor Taylor

She just wanders around, unaffected by,
The winter winds here, she'll pretend that
She's somewhere else, so far and clear
About two thousand miles, from here

Well Peter Patrick pitter patters on the window,
The sunny silhouette won't let him in
And poor old Pete's got nothing 'cause he's been falling
And somehow sunny knows just where he's been

He thinks that singin' on Sunday's gonna save his soul
Now that Saturday's gone
And sometimes he thinks that he's on his way,
But I can see, that his brake lights are on

He just wanders around, unaffected by,
The winter winds here, and he'll pretend that
He's somewhere else, so far and clear,
About two thousand miles from here

Such a tough enchilada, filled up with nada
Givin' what you gotta give to get a dollar bill
Used to be a limber chicken, times have been a ticking
Now she's finger lickin' to the man
With the money in his pocket, flying in his rocket
And only stopping by on his way to a better world

If Taylor finds a better world
Then Taylor's gonna run away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Taylor" by On and On tell the stories of two characters, Taylor and Peter Patrick, who are both struggling with their lives. Taylor is described as a good girl, always on time and with ideas in her brain. She works on the night shift, passing out tickets to those who want to park their cars. However, her life takes a turn for the worse as she becomes a street worker. She now wishes she had listened to the words they said, implying that someone may have warned her. The lyrics paint a picture of a lost woman wandering around, feeling unaffected by the world she lives in. She wishes to be somewhere else, two thousand miles away, to find a better world.

Peter Patrick is introduced in the later part of the song. He is a man who sings on Sundays, thinking that it will save his soul. However, his life is not going well. He has nothing because he has been falling, and the person referred to as Sunny seems to have some knowledge of Peter's life. The lyrics suggest that Peter thinks he is on his way to a better life but somehow the brake lights are still on, indicating that he is not making any progress. He, like Taylor, is lost and wandering around, pretending that he is somewhere else.

The Long Game

I've made this comment before, when discussing Zion's issues.

It is not really possible to sustain a relationship where both people in the relationship are celebrities/public entities. I think you have already pointed out, and others have as well, when discussing what type of people that the most elite athlete's surround themselves with: support people that can remove any life distraction so the athlete can focus on their game.

This goes for you choice of spouse as well.

The same would be true for a pop star, especially one of Swift's caliber. All other distractions need to be removed so the focus can be on the thing they are successful for. Here, you have two people that are in the limelight, that need all distractions removed from their lives, so they can be in peak form. The spouse needs to be 100% responsible for the home life, asking only a minimal number of questions at the right time, to make certain the celebrity can give it due attention. When both members of the relationship are at the levels of success that Kelce and Swift are at, the question, I hope, is clear: who's taking care of the home? Which one of them is going to step away from the spotlight so the other can be the full success they can be?

We can hope it works, but it's not going to in the end.

As a KC native and lifelong Chiefs fan, I get the feeling that when she starts hanging around the Mahomes and Jason Kelce families with all their kids, this is going to be a sealed deal.
Travis is probably starting to want kids being surrounded by family with young kids.
I have daughters Swifts age and I can tell you women her and Travis age are thinking about kids. Swift has already conquered the world and so has Travis.
The Mahomes and Kelce families would be an awesome environment to raise a family in. Those are a very close knit families with a tight circle of friends.

I don't really listen to her music, but I respect her a ton for everything she has accomplished in her life. That being said, Taylor's fans are insane. If anyone should be worried about red flags it's Travis.. How many failed relationships has this girl had with high profile guys before?

As a Chiefs fan I'm already exhausted from this, Thanks for all your hard work. "BREAK"
