1) One Man Army was a punk rock band from San Francisco, California. They were discovered by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong while playing in an East Bay club, and their debut album Dead End Stories was the first release on Adeline Records, Armstrong's label. Originally consisting of Jack Dalrymple (guitar, lead vocals), Brandon Pollack (drums), and James Kotter (bass), the members at the time of separation were Dalrymple, Heiko Schrepel (bass, backup vocals) and Chip Hanna (drums).
Together since 1996, rumors began spreading around 2003 that the band had broken up; One Man Army officially called it quits in 2005.
The band released three albums, Dead End Stories on Adeline Records (1998), Last Word Spoken on Adeline Records (2000), and Rumors and Headlines on BYO Records (2002). The band recorded a split EP with Chicago punk rock band Alkaline Trio in 2004. This was to be their last recorded effort.
The band have a live DVD, "The Show Must Go Off" released by Kung Fu Records in 2003.
Dalrymple went on to form Dead to Me (Fat Wreck Chords) with Western Addiction front man Chicken. Dalrymple co-wrote their debut album Cuban Ballerina as well as an EP Little Brother, but parted ways with Dead to Me after the birth of his first son. It is rumored that he will eventually return to Dead to Me for future projects. He also plays guitar in the Swingin' Utters and the Re-Volts.

One Man Army Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The Situations And The Prying Eyes
Looking At Me
Is There No Where I Could Go?
Somewhere You Couldn't See
S.O.S. In A State Of Emergency
So Let's Say For A Second
I've Grown Attached
I'm Total Waste
And The Pills That They Gave Me
Just Give Me The Shits
I Don't Think They Work
I'm Suppose To Fit In
Let's Say But Just For A Second
I'm Only Kidding
I'm Well Adjusted
Let's Say Nothin' At All
In A State Of Emergency
I'm Calling Out To Anyone
An S.O.S. I'm In A State Of Emergency
In "S.O.S", One Man Army sings about feeling trapped and watched constantly, feeling like there is no escape from the "situations" and "prying eyes" that are monitoring their every move. The lyrics suggest a sense of desperation and a need for help, as evidenced by the repeated phrase "S.O.S. in a state of emergency". The singer questions whether there is anywhere they can go to escape the scrutiny and judgment of others, presenting a bleak outlook and a sense of hopelessness.
The second verse of the song adds to this despair, painting a picture of a life that is falling apart. The singer describes themselves as a "total waste", struggling with addiction and feeling like the medication they have been given is ineffective. The line "I'm supposed to fit in" suggests that the pressure to conform and meet societal standards is adding to the singer's stress, as they struggle to keep up appearances and maintain a facade of happiness and functionality.
Overall, "S.O.S" is a poignant commentary on the struggles of living in a world where one's every move is scrutinized and judged by others. It speaks to the pressure to perform and the feeling of being trapped that many people experience, and serves as a call for help and a plea for understanding.
