I Can't Live Without You
One Nation Crew Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't live
Live without you
I can't live without you
I can't breathe
Breathe without you
I can't breathe without you

I'd be like a ship without a sail
Drifting on the sea
I'd be empty like a waterless well
Or a tree without leaves

I can't live
I can't breathe
I can't eat
I can't sleep

What would it be like if the sun didn't shine
Or if the birds didn't sing
Don't you wish you could go back in time
And relive a memory

I can't live
I can't breathe
I can't eat
I can't sleep

I can't smile
Smile without you
I can't smile without you

There's no me

No me without you
There's no me without you

Overall Meaning

The song โ€œI Canโ€™t Live Without Youโ€ by One Nation Crew is a love song that expresses the depth of love and attachment between two people. The lyrics primarily present a comparison of what life would be like without the presence of the loved one to that of a ship without a sail, a waterless well, or a tree without leaves, which emphasizes how incomplete life feels without the other person. The singer emphasizes that they canโ€™t live, breathe, eat, smile or even sleep without the presence of their significant other; the person is a necessity for their existence.

The song uses imagery to paint a picture of what it would be like without the person they love, stating that life would be as brutal as the sun not shining or birds not singing. The singer is so enmeshed with the loved one that there is no identity without them; the sense of identity is lost without them. The song portrays the depth of the singerโ€™s feelings and how essential the loved person is to their life. With its relatable themes of love and heartbreak, the song became very popular not just with the Christian audience to which One Nation Crew catered to but also with some mainstream audiences.

@jchrsmusic

One of my favorite albums. Why is it so hard to find?

@WillieEllebieGospelChannel

That's a good question. This album didn't do bad on the Billboard Gospel Charts. It peaked at #2 on 9/2/00. It also peaked at #58 on the Billboard Hot 200 Chart on the same date.

@jchrsmusic

Willie Ellebie Gospel Channel exactly! It was the first album I owned as a kid. I did read somewhere that all of the governmental references and call outs in some of the interludes, could be the reason itโ€™s hard to find... Thatโ€™s the only thing I can think of.

@WillieEllebieGospelChannel

Wow that's an interesting theory. Thanks bringing it to my attention. Kirk Franklin and One Nation Crew should be allowed to express themselves freely without any interference or censorship.
