ONE WITHOUT was the result of taking the well-known “Gothenburg Metal Sound” and expanding it with elements of modern rock and pop in order to create an incomparable and fresh style of its own. There is nothing to fear about the combination of powerful brutality, catchy grooves and an advanced pop-approach. It all depends on the self-confidence of the involved musicians and their song writing skills, which is exactly what makes the difference with ONE WITHOUT.
The band was formed in the early days of 2003 by Joonas Niskanen and Erik Pasanen, who joined the band shortly after. Soon there was a full line-up and the band recorded their first four track demo “Lonely Moments” in April 2005. ONE WITHOUT broke up the same year because of various side projects and complications.
After over a year of silence they gathered once again in 2006 and recorded the EP entitled “Soul Rehab” containing 5 songs. At this time, only 3 members were left from the original lineup, Joonas, Erik and Olle Töpel. Kenny Boufadene joined the band in August 2007 as bass player. ONE WITHOUT released a new single and a video to a song called “No Spinning Dice” in September 2007.
The recording for their debut album started in February 2008, but couldn't be completed because Eric, their singer and guitarist, left the band. Catrin Feymark joined the band as singer in 2008, and she re-wrote all the lyrics and melodies in a short period of time. They recorded a new song called “Whispers of the Voiceless”. In the end of 2008 the bass player Kristofer Bergman joined the band as Kenny switched to guitar.
The September 2009 release “Thoughts Of A Secluded Mind” is offering an invigorating mixture, that quickly catches the listeners with distinctive hook lines and the beautiful voice of Catrin. Diversity and depth are the main strengths the album is based on.
The Swedes where carving out their own melodic and exhilarating sound in between metal and rock, laying the foundation for a bright future. There is no question in how this band caught the attention of LIFEFORCE RECORDS: ONE WITHOUT was one of the most promising young Scandinavian Rock/Metal acts!
On September 16, 2012 One Without made the following announcement via Facebook:
"We have jointly decided to not continue with One Without, and are going separate ways to focus on other bands instead. One Without will not continue to function as a band, and we won´t be working with the band at all. "

The lyrics to One Without's song Separation depict the struggles of being separated from someone or something that was once a significant part of one's life. The song talks about being divided in two with all touch forbidden and how this separation won't ever lose its color. The "broken queen" mentioned in the lyrics could represent the lost relationship or the lost self that's broken and needs fixing. The lyrics go on to talk about the silent tears that are running and how it makes the burden fade a bit. However, the separation still holds strength even when the burden seems less heavy. The voices in one's head are screaming and wanting them to go beyond control and crave for remedy. It could mean that the person is struggling to cope with the separation and the pain, and they're looking for an escape in anything that can offer them comfort.
The next part of the lyrics talks about striving to find what's gone missing, and there's no way they'll move quietly. The mind is trembling, and an earthquake is upon their door. It could signify the turmoil and chaos happening within them due to the separation. However, soon they'll hear the signal, and someone will try to bring them back on track. Still, the separation won't lose its color when this happens. The person wants to ignore the things that used to haunt them and leave them helpless and bring them into nothingness. They hear the doom, but they choose not to respond, and it puts the light in darkness. They had to choose the life of mortality, which means they had to choose to face the pain and accept that the separation is a part of life.
