Izunwane love is all you ever wanted Izunwane
Simple life with simple joy
House and two kids with a man that you need
Woh Izunwane life is never how we want it Izunwane
Lost a man at twentyone to six master feet and room that you live
Oh Izunwane

You are a woman an African woman
Giving it all you've got
You are woman living in a world that's so hard
If you care

Izunwane
You know how lonely your life can be
Izunwane lonely days and lonely nights
No one in your bed crying to know end
Uhm Izunwane living life not like you want it Izunwane
Trying to understand this is your fate there's no one to blame
Oh Izunwane

You are a woman an African woman
Giving it all you've got
You are woman living in a world
So hard If you care
Izunwane

Let us go
Let us go Nwanem nwayi
Let us go let us go
Let us go o let us go nwanem nwoke
Let us go hey let us go

Ne nu kai naba ne nu kai naba

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Onyeka Onwenu's song 'African Woman' explore the struggles and challenges faced by an African woman named Izunwane. The song talks about her desire for a simple life with a loving husband, a house, and two kids but life is hard and never as we want it. Izunwane lost her husband when she was only twenty-one years old to six feet under, which is probably a reference to death. It describes how she copes with her loneliness, living her life not how she wants it and trying to come to terms with her fate.

Onwenu's powerful lyrics depict the harshness, loneliness, and perseverance of an African woman's life. It's a tribute to African women, highlighting their strength in the face of adversity. The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the strength of African women: "You are a woman, an African woman, giving it all you've got."

Overall, the song African Woman, through Izunwane's story, communicates the message of resilience and hope in difficult situations.

on Ekwe

That interpretation is rubbish! It's a diss song in regards to her ex husband. Yes, Ekwe means drum or loud noise, or even a call to arms( not in the battle sense, think town crier announcement). In this case her ex's name could have Ekwe in it or she's likening his relentless pursuit to win her back to a loud annoying noise that follows her everywhere she goes. Stop interpreting unless you know what the words actually mean. It's unethical!
