Read Full Bio ↴OOMPH! is an industrial rock band from the neue deutsche härte scene.
OOMPH! consists of:
Robert Flux (guitar, mixing)
Andreas Crap (lead guitar, keyboards)
Leo (live drums)
Hagen (live bass)
Der Schulz (lead vocalist)
The band was formed in 1989 in Wolfsburg, Germany. They are one of the founders of the fusion of hard metal music and industrial sounds known as Neue Deutsche Härte.
OOMPH! owed a lot to Nitzer Ebb in their self-titled debut (1992). OOMPH!'s change of style for the successor "Sperm" (1994), with a more guitar-driven metal sound mixed with their electronic roots, inspired numerous musicians, most famously Rammstein, to follow their lead. (Rammstein have cited OOMPH! in several interviews as their main inspiration.)
OOMPH! released their first album on Jor's Machinery label, then releasing their consecutive albums on its sister-label Dynamica. They stayed with Jor, until his labels disappeared during the acquisition by Sanctuary Records at around 1996/1997.
Following Dynamica OOMPH! finally signed with Virgin Schallplatten. With the benefits of major-label status OOMPH! gained a larger following, and toured with labelmates Skunk Anansie in 1999. Between 1998 and 2001 they released three albums on the Virgin label, fulfilling their contract, but did not continue, feeling that the record company never fully explored their potential.
In 2004 OOMPH! released their first single "Augen auf!" on a new label, this time on Supersonic Records, part of the Sony BMG group of music companies. It marks their first Number One hit ever in Germany, thus eventually bringing forth their major commercial breakthrough. It became part of the FIFA 2005 soundtrack.
The band's ninth record, GlaubeLiebeTod was released in March 2006, including the controversial single "Gott ist ein Popstar" and its follow-up "Das letzte Streichholz", the third single was Die Schlinge.
In 2007, they won the third Bundesvision Song Contest (a contest between the sixteen states of Germany) for Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) with "Träumst du?", which featured Marta Jandová from Die Happy.
While OOMPH! are not widely known within the United States, the band did perform at a New York festival in 1993. In Europe they have performed at M'era Luna, Ozzfest, Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air.

Deutschland (Deutschland)
Kannst du deine Kinder sehen?
Wie sie vor dem Abgrund Schlange stehn
Krankes (krankes)
Deutschland (Deutschland)
Kannst du ihre Angst verstehen
Wenn sie schlafen gehn?
La le lu
Nur der Mann im Mond schaut zu
Wenn die armen Kinder schlafen
Drum schlaf auch du
La le lu
Und das kleine Herz friert zu
Wenn die andren Kinder fragen
"Wie viel hast du?"
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Mach die Lichter aus
Die Wahrheit ist grausam
Drum schenk mir einen Traum
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Komm zu mir nach Haus
Streu mir Sand in meine Augen
Und weck mich nie wieder auf
Armes (armes)
Deutschland (Deutschland)
Kannst du deine Kinder sehen?
Wie sie langsam vor die Hunde gehen?
Reiches (reiches)
Deutschland (Deutschland)
Wann wird dir der Spaß vergehen
Wann wirst du versteh'n?
La le lu
Nur der Mann im Mond schaut zu
Wenn die armen Kinder schlafen
Drum schlaf auch du
La le lu
Und das kleine Herz friert zu
Wenn die andren Kinder fragen
"Wie viel hast du?"
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Mach die Lichter aus
Die Wahrheit ist grausam
Drum schenk mir einen Traum
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Komm zu mir nach Haus
Streu mir Sand in meine Augen
Und weck mich nie wieder auf
Trockenbrot macht Wangen rot
Der Junge lebt in großer Not
Er schrie sich schon die Lungen wund
Der Hunger brennt in Kindermund
Trockenbrot macht Wangen rot
Doch jeder sitzt im eigenem Boot
Ich zeig dir jetzt was Wohlstand ist
Im Land dass seine Brut vergisst
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Mach die Lichter aus
Die Wahrheit ist grausam
Drum schenk mir einen Traum
Sandmann!
Sandmann!
Komm zu mir nach Haus
Streu mir Sand in meine Augen
Und weck mich nie wieder auf
The song "Sandmann" by Oomph! is a commentary on the dire situation in Germany during the 90s when the country was experiencing high rates of unemployment and economic hardship, particularly affecting children. The first verse poses a question to Germany, asking if it can see its children standing at the edge of a cliff, desperate and fearful. The chorus then calls out to Sandmann, the mythical character who puts children to sleep, asking him to bring a dream to escape the harsh reality.
The second verse contrasts the situation of poor children in Germany with those in wealthy homes, questioning when the rich will understand the importance of recognizing and addressing the suffering of the less fortunate. The final verse paints a bleak picture of a boy who is malnourished and crying out for help, but no one is listening because everyone is too focused on their own success. The overall message is a cry for action and change in how society treats its most vulnerable members.
In conclusion, "Sandmann" is a poignant and powerful criticism of the economic and social inequality that existed in Germany during the 90s, and the need for collective action to address it.

@mirieleledhwen7891
S Somerlot Metal bands should do songs in German, Dutch, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and forget english!
@oscardixon3359
I wouldn't say forget english, but I do agree with your point, all these languages are better xD
@Hyunckel101
Sir, with all due respect, this is most certainly not metal. Pop-rock at best...
@oscardixon3359
Looking into it more, i do agree, but its still amazing
@akaioyano8023
О боже, это великолепно, почему я только сейчас узнала об этой восхитительной группе? Обожаю металл на любых языках, но в немецком есть что-то, что отличает от других, как бы выразить это, немецкий, думаю, для металла по звучанию подходит идеально.
@user-hb6uc6fw7g
Мне тоже немецкий нравится он строгий и чоткий
@helenaausosterreich9736
@Роцкер Роцкерович если можешь хотя бы писать на немецком без ошибок, то хорошо. в противном случае люби русский и пиши правильно
@TheAimirak
Я согласен!
