Read Full Bio ↴OOMPH! is an industrial rock band from the neue deutsche härte scene.
OOMPH! consists of:
Robert Flux (guitar, mixing)
Andreas Crap (lead guitar, keyboards)
Leo (live drums)
Hagen (live bass)
The band was formed in 1989 in Wolfsburg, Germany. They are one of the founders of the fusion of hard metal music and industrial sounds known as Neue Deutsche Härte.
OOMPH! owed a lot to Nitzer Ebb in their self-titled debut (1992). OOMPH!'s change of style for the successor "Sperm" (1994), with a more guitar-driven metal sound mixed with their electronic roots, inspired numerous musicians, most famously Rammstein, to follow their lead. (Rammstein have cited OOMPH! in several interviews as their main inspiration.)
OOMPH! released their first album on Jor's Machinery label, then releasing their consecutive albums on its sister-label Dynamica. They stayed with Jor, until his labels disappeared during the acquisition by Sanctuary Records at around 1996/1997.
Following Dynamica OOMPH! finally signed with Virgin Schallplatten. With the benefits of major-label status OOMPH! gained a larger following, and toured with labelmates Skunk Anansie in 1999. Between 1998 and 2001 they released three albums on the Virgin label, fulfilling their contract, but did not continue, feeling that the record company never fully explored their potential.
In 2004 OOMPH! released their first single "Augen auf!" on a new label, this time on Supersonic Records, part of the Sony BMG group of music companies. It marks their first Number One hit ever in Germany, thus eventually bringing forth their major commercial breakthrough. It became part of the FIFA 2005 soundtrack.
The band's ninth record, GlaubeLiebeTod was released in March 2006, including the controversial single "Gott ist ein Popstar" and its follow-up "Das letzte Streichholz", the third single was Die Schlinge.
In 2007, they won the third Bundesvision Song Contest (a contest between the sixteen states of Germany) for Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) with "Träumst du?", which featured Marta Jandová from Die Happy.
While OOMPH! are not widely known within the United States, the band did perform at a New York festival in 1993. In Europe they have performed at M'era Luna, Ozzfest, Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air.

Warum hast Du so straffe Haut
Warum hast Du so große Brüste
Warum bist Du so gut gebaut
Warum hast Du so schlanke Beine
Warum hast Du so volles Haar
Warum hast Du so dicke Lippen
Warum bist Du so sonderbar
Großmutter, Großmutter
warum bist Du noch so jung
Wer schön sein will muss leiden, mein Kind
Die Welt wird Dich beneiden, mein Kind
Weißt du nicht, wer seine Seele an die Hölle verkauft
wird immer jung sein, schön und schlank mit flachem Bauch
und ich weiß, das willst Du auch
Hör mir zu
Wer schön sein will muss so viel Schmerz ertragen
drum schau mir bitte nicht ins Herz, mein Kind
Wer schön sein will muss viele Wunden haben
drum schau mir bitte nicht ins Herz
Wer schön sein will muss leiden, mein Kind
Die Welt wird Dich beneiden, mein Kind
Weißt du nicht, wer seine Seele an die Hölle verkauft
wird immer jung sein, schön und schlank mit flachem Bauch
Wer schön sein will muss leiden
Weißt du nicht, wer seinen Körper in der Hölle bestellt
bleibt immer jung, hat viel Erfolg und schwimmt im Geld
und das ist es doch was zählt
The song "Wer schön sein will muss leiden" by Oomph! is a commentary on society's obsession with physical beauty at any cost. The lyrics ask a series of questions about physical attributes, such as "why do you have big eyes, tight skin, large breasts and a good build," and the response is "whoever wants to be beautiful must suffer." The song's perspective is that society is willing to make sacrifices for physical beauty, such as selling one's soul to the devil and enduring pain, to attain success, money and admiration.
The song touches upon the themes of body image, acceptance, and conformity. Society has this unrealistic expectation of what is considered beautiful and people go to great lengths to meet those expectations. The lyrics of the song are addressed to a grandmother who has managed to look young, and good-looking without divulging what she did to get there. The song hints at the idea that beauty is unattainable without sacrifice, including selling one's soul to the devil.
The song points out the unhealthy side of the quest towards beauty, where physical appearance is prioritized over inner beauty. The message conveyed is that beauty is not just appearance, but it is a reflection of an inner-state that can never be fully captured. The song encourages listeners to focus on loving themselves and scrutinizing the extent to which they will go to meet society's standards of beauty.

Good translation as it stands. I have purely subjective suggestions, in the sense of "How would we say it in poetic and natural-sounding English?"
Warum has du so dicke Lippen?
Instead of "Why do you have such thick lips?" I would say "Why do you have such full lips?" Because "thick" doesn't sound so much like an ideal of beauty.
Warum bist do so sonderbar?
Instead of "Why are you so strange?" (which is correct), I would say "Why are you so special?" Again, I'm searching for the compliment.
Wer seinen Körper in der Hölle bestellt"
Instead of "those who order their body into hell" I would say "those who book their body into hell". You don't order yourself into a spa, you book a place, make a reservation.
That's all I have. Like I said, it's more subjective and poetic interpretation. But as it stands, this is an uncommonly good translation for a random find on the internet.
