Bombshell
Operation Ivy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(She) She (she) she's a bombshell
(She) She (she) she's a bombshell

(Whoa)

Down in south Oakland, off East 14th it's raining (Oh yeah)
Six a.m. on Sunday, the bums are praying (Oh yeah)
Met her at a party, we were drunk, now we're sober (Oh yeah)
She said, "It's cold, got a long walk home, come over"
Oh yeah

She's a bombshell
She's a bombshell
She's a bombshell

I've retraced my steps a thousand times (Oh yeah)
Seems like I've spent hours asking all my friends about her (Oh yeah)
Been six months, I'll never be the same (Oh yeah)
Nobody, nobody, nobody remembers her name
Oh yeah

She's a bombshell
She's a bombshell
She's a bombshell

(Go)

Oh yeah

She, she, she, she's a bombshell
She, she, she, she's a bombshell (Oh yeah)
She, she, she, she's a bombshell
She, she, she, she's a bombshell (Oh yeah)

She's a bombshell

Overall Meaning

The song "Bombshell" by Operation Ivy is a song about a girl who is described as a "bombshell." The song starts with a description of a rainy Sunday morning in South Oakland, and goes on to describe how the singer met this girl at a party while they were both drunk. She told him that she had a long walk home because it was cold, and he offered to accompany her. The chorus repeats the phrase "She's a bombshell" several times, which suggests that the singer finds this girl extremely attractive.

The song takes a melancholic turn when the singer admits that he can't remember the girl's name and that nobody seems to know who she is. He has retraced his steps a thousand times, and has asked all his friends about her, but to no avail. This suggests that the singer is haunted by this encounter and that he regrets not getting to know the girl better. The song ends with the chorus repeating "She's a bombshell" one final time, which suggests that in the singer's eyes, this girl will always be an enigmatic and alluring figure.

If your mind AUTOMATICALLY started singing, "There's a war comin' down between my brothers and I..." right AFTER the song ended, then you're old school. Give this a thumbs up!

First op ivy song I ever heard.... Got it in a wav file via the AOL punk room.. took me 3 hours to download but man....1998 was a great year. I miss being young.

@kinetikx

Imagine being in your 20's when you first heard it around '93. Now how old do you feel?

And I'm sure there were a bunch of dudes older than me who heard this live in the east bay in the 80's.

Now I feel younger :)
