Marrow of the Earth
Opeth Lyrics

Overall Meaning

As the song Marrow of the Earth is entirely instrumental, it is left to the listener to interpret the music as they personally see fit. The lack of lyrics allows for the listener to fully immerse themselves in the emotional journey portrayed through the music. The title of the song, Marrow of the Earth, brings to mind the idea of something that is deep and essential, like the core of the world. Perhaps the music reflects this idea, with its use of heavy, reverberating guitars and soaring melodies that build to a powerful climax. The intricate instrumental arrangements may represent the intricate systems at work in the natural world.

Mikael Åkerfeldt is a true musical genius. Through and above of all styles and forever.

You are correct, sir. To me as a classical music lover this is Brahmns meets Opeth.

Hana Bakhouch

sheer perfection. I can never understand why people will bash opeth for letting go of death metal, it's great that they experiment, and honestly Mikael's clean vocals are just outstanding. This album also has a very dark feeling to it...
long story short, the prog rock opeth is more appealing and complex than death metal opeth, and I'll always support this great band, it grew on me so much

I personally love this song but ain't a particular fan of Opeth in general, which is kind of the opposite situation of your statement. I can recognize a lot of quality in their work, but nothing they created has moved me more than Marrow of the Earth (just my personal statement of course). The serenity and melancholy of this harmonious melody, which is so well played it gives us 'all' goosebumps is just wonderful. If they're mainly focused on death metal, I think it only proves a great sensibility to be able to create something like this.

+Hana Bakhouch Its not bad. But I dont get how its supposed to be more complex.

It's absolutely not more complex, but it doesn't matter, in the end it's still pretty good and interesting. I also dig this side of Opeth.
