INTRODUCTION
Opiate For The Masses Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The slightest breeze will spread disease
You breathe it in, it takes you to your knees

Can't keep your feet on the ground anymore
Don't know what's up or down anymore

Don't lie to me - you're suffering
It's a perfect day - would you like to play with me?

Can't keep your feet on the ground anymore
Don't know what's up or down anymore

I introduce you the highest grade
As I seduce you, don't be afraid
Don't have to bruise you to get my way
I'll never lose you or go astray

Can't keep your feet on the ground anymore
Don't know what's up or down anymore

Don't make a sound if it'll only fade
'Cause with me around you that's no fair trade

Can't keep your feet on the ground anymore
Don't know what's up or down anymore

I introduce you the highest grade
As I seduce you, don't be afraid
Don't have to bruise you to get my way
I'll never lose you or go astray

Don't lie to me - you're suffering
It's a perfect game - would you like to come with me?

I introduce you the highest grade
As I seduce you, don't be afraid

Don't have to bruise you to get my way
I'll never lose you or go astray

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Opiate For The Masses' song "Introduction" can be interpreted as a representation of addiction, particularly to drugs. The opening lines, "The slightest breeze will spread disease / You breathe it in, it takes you to your knees," suggest that the singer is aware of how easy it is to succumb to the temptation of using drugs. The following lines, "Can't keep your feet on the ground anymore / Don't know what's up or down anymore," paint a picture of loss of control and disorientation that often accompany drug use.

As the song continues, the singer seems to be offering the listener a way out of their suffering by introducing them to the "highest grade," which can be interpreted as the drug the singer is trying to sell. The lines "Don't have to bruise you to get my way / I'll never lose you or go astray" suggest that the singer is in control of the situation and that the listener can trust them to provide them with what they need. However, the final lines, "It's a perfect game - would you like to come with me?" suggest that the singer is aware of the danger of addiction but is still offering it as a tempting escape from reality.

Overall, "Introduction" by Opiate For The Masses can be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the dangers of addiction and the temptation to escape from reality through drugs.

I didn't know OFM released an album in 2008! This is like finding a $20 bill on the ground! I was going through my cd collection and saw the Goodbye EP, decided to reminisce, forgot how much these guys kicked ass and how much I loved The Spore album. "The Carried" track is so good! That whole EP was produced by Charlie Clouser of 90s NIN. Good stuff.
