1) The Opposition were a long running post-punk band from London, England that featured Ralph Hall, Marcus Bell and Mark Long, and mixed new wave sounds with reggae rhythms.
Founded in 1979, The Opposition released their first single on the independent record label Double Vision records. This was called "Very Little Glory" which the NME (New Musical Express) reviewed and said that it was "a song recorded before its time".
With the press picking up on the band, they switched from indie to major and secured a contract with the Ariola Record label in Europe. A single called "This Year" came out by Ariola, followed by the self produced "Breaking The Silence" album, and a French tour.
In 1984 the band signs to Virgin Records offshoot Charisma Records and released firstly "Intimacy" in 1983. The "Promises" album was released a year later, and another album called "Empire Days" the following year. On these releases the band worked with Producer Kenny Jones.
After a hiatus, when band members Marcus Bell and Mark Long recorded a more commercial sounding album under the name SO, the band regrouped and released the album "Blue Alice Blue" album, again recorded with Producer Kenny Jones. Also, a number of re-issues get the deluxe treatment with extra tracks on Virgin Records.
Although working separately (Mark in London and Marcus in France) they released two albums together: "War Begins At Home" in 1993 and "Blinder" in 2003.
Then Marcus and Mark parted their ways. Marcus Bell released new album "Love and Betrayal" in 2011 under the name The Opposition, equally Mark Long released few Albums under same band's name containing some unreleased material, demos and live tracks.
Marcus Bell died from cancer in December 2014.
Mark Long continued touring under The Opposition name and released further albums: "Somewhere In Between" in 2016 and "Hope" in 2021

I Already Know

Maybe we should change our environment
This pressure is about to explode
I can't hide from it and I can't face it alone
We've known for months but I can't answer you
I enjoy the level but it's not what I'm used to
There's no time to think for ourselves
We have to act before it all falls through
I ALREADY KNOW
A step forward takes so much effort
I need a rest but I can't find the time
What we've lost is the conversation
Too much thought leads to too many problems
We've known for months but I can't handle it I
Enjoy the pressure but it's not what I'm used to
There's no time to think for ourselves
We have to act before it all falls through
It's 9.30 we're already late, we can talk about it but
I ALREADY KNOW
I felt a change in our situation
Maybe we should change our environment
This pressure is about to explode
I can't hide from it and I can't face it alone
I ALREADY KNOW
The lyrics to Opposition's "I Already Know" tell the story of a relationship in crisis. The singer feels a change in their situation and suggests changing their environment, indicating that their current circumstances may no longer be conducive to a happy and healthy relationship. The pressure is building, and they can't face it alone, but they also can't provide answers to their partner, even though they are aware of the issues at hand.
The singer reveals that they enjoy the level of pressure in the relationship but confesses that it's not what they're used to. They feel like there's no time to think for themselves and that they must take action before everything falls apart. The urgency is heightened by the fact that they are already running late, and the singer concedes that despite the need to discuss their issues, they already know how it will end.
Overall, the song's emotional tone is one of sadness and resignation, as the singer recognizes the damage to their relationship, but is seemingly powerless to stop it. The pressure is mounting, and things are about to explode, leading to a poignant and bittersweet end.
