After releasing a five-song EP entitled "Actum Procul" (recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood) Opus Däi quickly became a must-see live band with a diverse and loyal following, having played over 500 live shows and having shared the stage with System of a Down, Dredg, Linkin Park, Fair to Midland, The Apex Theory and Sevendust to name just a few.
Touring relentlessly for nearly 2 years in support of their debut LP "Tierra Tragame" the band finally returned home in fall of 2007, eager to work on new material. However due to rising tension between members and growing musical differences, the band parted ways with long time vocalist Chris Paul Basso and touring newbie Ryan Collier. Where this might appear as a major set back to some, Opus Däi quickly charged forward. In less then one year, Opus Däi not only rebuilt the band, they wrote an entire new set of material, recorded and released a new EP and toured the entire West Coast... Twice! - All within one years time!
The newest 2008 release "Touch The Sun" (Produced, Recorded and Mixed by Jun Murakawa) marks the 1st effort from Opus Däi since their debut LP "Tierra Tragame" in 2006. The new 5 song EP was also the first release to feature singer Tim Neighbors along with founding members Atsushi Miyamoto and Jagger Gonzales. In September of 2009, Opus Dai welcomed Bass Virtuoso Michael Adams to the band. With a new line up you can certainly expect some surprises on this effort. But you can also be assured that this EP is a natural progression of everything Opus Däi is known and loved for: innovative, thought provoking and dynamic music, delivered with an intensity that always captivates.
Opus Däi is currently working on new material and is expected to release a new full length Album in the coming year.
Sora
Opus Däi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Opus Däi's song Sora paints an image of freedom and liberation through the metaphor of a carpet that swings, flowing through the wind. The song symbolizes the liberation of the soul and the breaking free from the chains that bind a person's spirit. The pink and blue colors allude to a brighter, more hopeful outlook--a sign of positivity and hope in a world that's often bleak and uncertain. The song also speaks of the limitless possibilities one can achieve with their newfound freedom, saying that we have more than we thought and hoping we can use it somehow.
One interpretation of the lyrics centers on the idea of letting go of one's past and cultural heritage, as represented by the mention of the grandfather's say. The song suggests that the old ways of thinking can hold one back from experiencing the fullness of life and that it is important to break away from them to truly be free.
The repeating phrase "Open wide sky" emphasizes the expansiveness of the world and the limitless potential for growth and change. "Egidio-ahe-ahe-ah!" is a vocalization that can be interpreted as a cry of joy or elation, expressing the happiness that comes with newfound freedom and the promise of a better future.
