Strike Whilst the Iron Is Hot
Orange and Lemons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is all it takes to realize my mistakes
The light has turned green
Gotta catch the plane of passion
Time to stop wondering
And redirect everything
Instead to counter sheeps
For it might be too late
Seven years is quite enough
Strike whilst the iron is hot
Before the flames die down
And everything's forgotten
Self promises broken
Oh no, no, no
On bright sunny day
We could be gone
And never get another chance
And the world is over
Let's be a song and dance team
And wipe the town off our feet
Hum the tune and say the words
Soon they'll sing alone
In "Strike Whilst the Iron Is Hot," Orange and Lemons conveys the idea that opportunities come and go, and it's up to us to recognize them and act on them before it's too late. The lyrics suggest that the singer has recently undergone a period of self-reflection and has come to realize that they need to take action and pursue their passions instead of being complacent and allowing time to pass by. The opening line, "Thirty days of solitude, is all it takes to realize my mistakes," indicates that the singer has had this realization during a period of isolation and introspection.
The chorus emphasizes the urgency of seizing opportunities when they present themselves, using the metaphor of striking while the iron is hot. The lyrics mention a seven-year period, suggesting that the singer has been procrastinating or holding back on their goals for a prolonged time. The fear of missed opportunities and "self-promises broken" is expressed in these lines. The closing lines of the chorus, "Before the flames die down and everything's forgotten," underscore the ephemeral nature of opportunities.
The second verse shifts the focus to seizing the moment with a romantic partner. The lyrics propose that time is fleeting, and the chance to experience memorable moments together is short-lived. The lines "On bright sunny days, we could be gone and never get another chance" highlight the importance of acting on impulses and creating unforgettable memories before it's too late. The song's final lines encourage listeners to take advantage of opportunities and live their lives to the fullest.
