kadulla on tyhjää
otan seinältä vasaran
ja jatkan pimeyteen
Yksinäiset hampaat
koristavat kellarin lattiaa
valumajäljet kertovat
Mestarin kädet kaipaavat
uutta muovailtavaa
kehot hajoavat
ja syntyvät uudestaan
Syanidihengitys väreilee
väriharhoina
kaupungin yläpuolella
In Oranssi Pazuzu's song "Kuulen Ääniä Maan Alta," the lyrics paint a dark and mysterious atmosphere. The opening lines, "En erota savussa ketään, kadulla on tyhjää" (I can't distinguish anyone in the smoke, the street is empty), evoke a sense of isolation and confusion. The singer, feeling detached from reality, reaches for a hammer on the wall and continues further into darkness. This can be metaphorical for their descent into the unknown or their exploration of their own subconscious.
The next lines, "Yksinäiset hampaat koristavat kellarin lattiaa, valumajäljet kertovat mihin suuntaan he katosivat" (Lonely teeth decorate the cellar floor, traces tell where they disappeared), create vivid imagery of an eerie space filled with discarded teeth. The cellar becomes a symbol of hidden desires, buried secrets, or the underbelly of the mind. The teeth represent something lost or forgotten, and their disappearance leaves behind only traces.
Continuing, "Mestarin kädet kaipaavat uutta muovailtavaa, kehot hajoavat ja syntyvät uudestaan" (The master's hands crave something new to shape, bodies break apart and are reborn), introduces a sense of transformation and creation. These lines suggest that the singer or the master figure is searching for new forms or experiences, continuously dismantling and restructuring themselves. It signifies a constant cycle of destruction and rebirth, possibly reflecting a desire for reinvention or evolution.
Finally, "Syanidihengitys väreilee väriharhoina kaupungin yläpuolella" (Cyanide breath shimmers as illusory colors above the city) portrays a surreal and hallucinatory scene. The cyanide breath can be interpreted as a toxic or harmful influence hanging over the city. The mention of illusory colors suggests a distorted perception or an altered reality, further emphasizing the song's dark and dreamlike atmosphere.
Overall, "Kuulen Ääniä Maan Alta" explores themes of isolation, transformation, and the search for a deeper understanding of oneself. Its atmospheric lyrics and vivid imagery invite listeners to delve into mysterious and introspective realms.
