Carnival
Orbit Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The carnival came through today
She says I know what I'll be
And I'm in my head again
She says darkness never came for me
The freaks they walk by my room
One day they'll come and call
And they'll take me in
And they'll make me king
Of the carnival they are

Money counts for nothing, babe
When money comes for free
Money counts for nothing babe
In the carnival of freaks

She's in my bed again
Bust she says she's only killing time
And I'm in the waiting room
But it's slowly coming back with time
I'm on the rocking horse
But the rocking horse don't make no sense
I'm on the train again, get on the train again
Where it's all the freaks and me

REPEAT CHORUS 2X

Get on the train again
I'm on the train again

Get on the train again
I'm on the train again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Carnival by Orbit describe a sense of isolation and detachment that the singer is experiencing. The carnival serves as a metaphor for a place where he can belong and be accepted. The carnival is a place of escape from reality, where money doesn't matter, and freaks are king. The singer seems to yearn for a sense of identity, and the carnival represents a chance to achieve that.

The first verse of the song opens with the singer watching a carnival pass by. He is contemplating his place in the world and where he belongs. The line "She says darkness never came for me" implies that the singer has never experienced any real hardship in his life. However, the following lines suggest that he feels like an outsider, watching the world go by from his own room. The second verse describes the singer's longing for belongingness that pushes him towards the carnival. He meets a girl who is similarly lost, but they share a sense of understanding with each other. But their relationship is just another form of killing time. The last lines of the song describe the urge of the singer to leave everything behind and join the carnival.

Overall, the lyrics of the song Carnival by Orbit touch upon themes of identity, escapism, and the search for belongingness. It talks about the carnival as a mythical place where one can escape from reality and become someone else.
