Your Song
Orchestra Romantic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When ever we kiss,
I worry and wonder.
Your lips may be near,
but where is your heart?

It's always like this,
I worry and wonder.
You're close to me here,
but where is your heart?

It's a sad thing to realize
that you've a heart that never melts.
When we kiss, do you close your eyes,
pretending that I'm someone else?

You must break the spell,
this cloud that I'm under.

So please won't you tell, darling,
where is your heart?

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Your Song" by Orchestra Romantic describe the mental turmoil the singer feels every time they kiss their lover. This is because they worry about whether their lover's heart is truly in the kiss. The singer feels like their lover is physically close to them, but emotionally, they seem very distant. This emotional distance causes the singer to feel sad and frustrated, leading them to question their lover's intentions.

As the song progresses, the singer comes to the difficult realization that their lover has a heart that "never melts." Despite their attempts to connect on a deeper level, the singer feels like their kisses are empty and insignificant to their lover. The singer suspects that their lover may even be pretending that they are someone else when they close their eyes during a kiss.

The singer wants their lover to "break the spell" and be honest with them about where their heart truly lies. They want to know if their lover is truly invested in the relationship, or if they are only going through the motions. The song is a poignant reflection on the complexities of love and the difficulties that can arise when one partner is emotionally unavailable.

Elton John is one of the only people who could perform in a bathrobe and heart glasses and not be criticized for it

Actually, if you look back at his career, he was always criticized for that. Nowadays people are more open-minded and he conquered this place. Elton John it's not Elton John without extravaganza

Elton from the past and Elton from the present singing together. It's too beautiful

Somehow, I'm picturing Taron buying a ticket to attend and, when Elton finds out, he insists on bringing him onstage for a song...

It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic.
