The band had roots in Super Vox, a band formed in 1967 in Congo (then Zaire) and led by Mutonkole Lonwa Didos. The band moved to Nairobi in 1974 and changed its name to Orchestra Super Mazembe.

Their biggest hit was "Shauri Yako", a cover song originally performed by Nguashi Ntimbo & Festival Du Zaire. Other popular songs included "Samba", "Bwana Nipe Pesa" and "Kassongo". The group was disbanded in 1985.

Today 27 June 2023 i remember 40 years ago when I was posted as a teacher in the Narok South in a school called Engare Ngiro primary believe you me im back in the same school and i continue to enjoy and listening my favourite mushosho number " south views," I will hopefully retire in December 31 2023.God had been good.Kudos to Namis club which featured super mazembe in the Nairobi international show between 1978_1981. This was my best song by the super mazembe.After My secondary Examination in 1981the teachers service commission employed me and posted me in vast Narok South call it devine coincidence.Today 23 May 2022 I'm still a teacher bound to retire next year 2023 in December,God willing.kudos super mazembe.I first heard the song in the Nairobi international show 1978_ 1981stint.Music has a power to connect you to the Holy spirit and even professional duration

Supermazembe was the band ,them days ,mid seventies to early 80s… I remember they were the showstoppers in most Agricultural Shows in Kenya. In Kakamega Show they were the crowd pullers , doing their MUSHOSHO thing. Most band members have since passed on , Kasongo wa Kanema was the last I heard of… he May have passed in 2020 or 2021. May they RIP

The best Zairean team/band to have played in Kenya. Mangelepa was very close too. I loved Bukalos and Atia Joh properly. How Lovy was blending with Kasongo and Katele was unmatched. Not forgetting Dodo Doris and Loboko. The entire team was amazing. (Look for Okova & Muana nyiaw)

I personally met Katele in Mombasa Mtwapa Tropicana club. Atia Djo the bass man before their death snatched them. Am happy l shared this and that just about the music and l was happy to meet them. Kasongo wa Kanema was also there. Aaaaa pole kubwa kwa hao alienda.

Mbio za sakafuni huishia ukingoni. After many months of absence, back again at Darubini’s. Hodi! Hodi! In retrospect, I think Southview is my favourite Super Mazembe number. I actually was quite delighted by Mazembe, especially with Kasongo on the lead vocals. However, my affection slightly diminished when Lovy took over the lead vocals. The same disappointment was felt also when Coco Zigo joined Mangelepa, although I liked Coco very much when he was in Virunga and also in duo with Moreno.

@@paulonalo3131 : This name Onalo rings a bell!! Of course Coco Zigo Mike was in many bands including "Kombe Kombe" where he was very good. But I watched, him perform with Orchestra Virunga a few times. At that time Samba Mapangala had already had a vision of how future African (Congolese) music would look like: Based on the prowess of the individual singer on the same model as Tabu Ley, Sam Mangwana and Franco. Therefore Mapangala assembled the best Vocalists, in the latter ad hoc Virunga troupe. They included Batamba Moreno, Kasongo Wa Kanema, Coco Zigo, and Fataki Lokassa. This was the Creme de la Creme of Congolese musicians in Kenya (only Kabila Kabanze and Badibanga were missing). I tell you, in live performances Coco Zigo was unbeatable. This is because he had a tireless voice (could sing many songs e.g. Tabu Ley's with fidelity) and he was a superb dancer. Extremely good. And also a Darling of the Girls....Nice, handsome, slim, tall stature, mostly with cow-boy hat and Michael Jackson-like shoes.... But very hot tempered (I think he used to smoke Dope)!! Whenever he was on the stage with the rest of Virunga Group, all eyes of the crowd were focused on Coco Zigo Mike... He stood out from among all these Kenyan-Congolese Stars. To the chagrin of Samba Mapangala. Of course Coco then had to say adieu to Virunga, the way he did to Mangelapa and Viva Makale. But he was always a buddy of Moreno. Always. Why, I don't know....
