Notes - At least four studio versions of Electricity exist (five if the 1978 ID recording is included):
(1) September 1979 A-Side single produced by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Chester Valentino, it was subsequent compiled on Peel Sessions 1979-1983 (2001)
(2) The Martin Hannett studio re-recording, which was released on 21 May 1979 on Factory Records (FAC6), and appears as a bonus track on the expanded re-issue of the debut album, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
(3) A remix of Hannett's version which was released as a single in March 1980 and subsequently appeared on the band's debut album, and most the groups three compilation albums.
(4) A fourth mix of "Electricity" was produced by Mike Howlett. This version of "Electricity" was recorded during the Organisation sessions when the band fancied extending the instrumental section in the middle of the song. It was initially released on the Dindisc 1980 compilation album in 1980.[4] In 2003 it was released on CD as a bonus track on the re-issue of Organisation.

The ultimate discovery
Electric blue for me
Never more to be free
Electricity
Nuclear and HEP
Carbon fuels from the sea
Wasted electricity
Our one source of energy
Electricity
All we need to live today
A gift for man to throw away
The chance to change has nearly gone
The alternative is only one
The final source of energy
Solar electricity

The lyrics to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's song "Electricity" describe society's dependence on electricity as the ultimate form of energy. The first verse mentions nuclear, hydro-electric power, and carbon fuels from the sea, alluding to the different methods of generating electricity. The second verse emphasizes the need to find an alternative to traditional forms of electricity, as we are reaching a point of no return. The final source of energy is suggested to be solar electricity, a cleaner and more sustainable form of energy.
The chorus of "Electricity" repeats the title of the song several times, emphasizing the importance and pervasiveness of electricity in our lives. The overall message of the song can be interpreted as a warning for society to find more sustainable forms of energy before it's too late.

J'étais une enfant lorsque j'ai eu le plaisir d'entendre à la radio pour la première fois Enola Gay et cette chanson. Je les aime toujours autant. Merci à Orchestral Manœuvres In The Dark.
