The Battle for the Brain
By
Dante Kohrs
Mar. 20/14

My name is Paul and I am one of the general of the White Blood Cell army and this is my account of the Battle for the Brain. It was just another normal day for me. I got up, made breakfast and went down to the base and got to work. Then something strange happened, our radar picked up some abnormal cells in the brain. I sent some troops to go check it out. “ It looks pretty bad up here boss, these cells are from an army, I think it might be a tumor or a cancer army.” “Do some recon, then come back to the base.” Because of the pneumonia in the right lung most of the troops where there with General Rex. I would have to assemble my own army by going to each of the 5 major cities and gathering troops.

My first stop was the left lung (the capital of the respiratory province) this was the first major city on my list. The soldiers of the lungs are known for their lightening quick reflexes and speed. I had told the local mayor to put up signs in each of the neighborhoods saying that we needed troops to fight the tumor: bronchi, bronchioles, and the alveoli. Because most of the soldiers are fighting the pneumonia in the right lung I only managed to get a handful of troops. The next city on our list was the heart (the capital of the circulatory province). The heart was in decent shape and I managed to get a appropriate amount of soldiers. Again I told the mayor to put of signs in the: ventricles, atriums, aorta, and the pulmonary’s. Most of the soldiers from the heart are medics but if we are to win this war, we would need all the troops that we could get. Our next stop was the stomach (the capital of the digestive province). The soldiers of the digestive system are known for their strength and power. We got a majority of our troops from the large intestine, but we also got troops from the: small intestine, stomach, and rectum. Thankfully this province was in good shape and I managed to get a bunch of troops. The soldiers of the digestive system are known for their strength and power. The next stop on our list was the right kidney (the capital of the excretory system). The soldiers of the kidney are known for their smarts and their ability to get out of almost any situation. I got most of my army from the right kidney. The bladder, and the urethra were pretty much junkyards so I didn’t get any troops from there but I did get troops from the ureter’s and the kidney.

When we finally got up to the brain, it was worse that I had expected: the tumor army had taken most of the cerebellum and if we didn’t stop them, they would take the whole brain.

I would lead the attack. My plan was to take a handful of troops ahead and draw out a small number of tumor troops and then the main army would slaughter them. This plan worked for a while as we picked off troops from the back. But then they started to notice and they turned their whole army into attack formation.  We did the same. Even though we had probably destroyed ¼ of their army they still outnumbered us. As soon as we hit their front line we knew how much stronger they where than us. After about 2 minutes of fighting we had lost over half of our army, I was about to order a retreat, then I saw him: General Rex and his army. “He must have defeated the pneumonia army” I thought. “Battle formations, support is here!!!” I shouted. Finally we had gained the upper hand, we had surrounded them and ordered them to retreat. Of course they didn’t listen, but that was alright with us because we knew that we could win! We had to repair the cerebellum, but we would rather repair the cerebellum than lose the entire body.  I thought about all the soldiers that had died for this victory, and I knew that if we could defeat a tumor army, then we could defeat anything!

I watched this when I was in high school because at the time, I was watching a marathon of found footage films. I didn’t get the chance to look up the stuff that happened at Jonestown at the time to learn how close this movie was to what really happened. Years later, in my final semester of my senior year in college, I was in a “Cults & Conspiracy Theories” class. It was the first semester this class was ever taught at my college, meaning I was in the group of the first students to be taught in it. The first thing we learned about was of Jonestown. That was what I was looking forward to the most because I definitely wanted to know what really happened and how much this movie was close to it. Based on what I learned, I was really surprised. The movie had more things based on the actual event than I was expecting. I decided to watch the movie again while I was still studying about Jonestown. It gave me a different viewing than I did before. A more unsettling feeling. That’s when I realized that this movie did an authentic job to capture the real life nightmare. I mean, in my class, we listened to the tape recording of Jim as everyone died and read the suicide letters from the victims. But this gave off a new level of being unsettled with watching the characters going through this stuff. I had two professors in this class and I recommended that they should watch this movie. I told them that while they didn’t need to show the whole film in class, but just some scenes so future students can get a sense of what happened in Jonestown.

I actually thought this was really well done. I think they definitely at the end or at some point should have said that this was inspired by true events (I would assume most people who would choose to watch that would know this, but maybe not). There are definitely some very disturbing scenes in the film, which are all the more chilling when you think about how this actually happened, to a lot more people than were shown in this film. Although definitely watch a Jonestown documentary if you found this disturbing, truth is stranger than fiction.

Yeah, what does that have to do with my comment?

Sarah Gettinger

@mikemoair tf does that have to do with anything. There are plenty of "chicks" that don't like romantic films/romance comedies.

I thought this film was a fantastic portrayal of what happened at Jonestown.

Samuel Alemayhu

which in your opinion is better, the jonestown documentary or this?

Yup

Disturbing? No, predictable yes. The movie was ok, acting was a little off. Just a cheap imitation of the TV film about Jonestown minus the leaving of the United States.

Danger Cat

I've heard the real audio taping of the "incident or sacrifice" and it was truly heartbreaking hearing all of those kids crying and dying and then at the end everything went silent because everyone was either dead or dying.

I'll be damned. A found-footage horror film that actually looks good! From director Ti West nonetheless!

The guy who plays "father" is the guy from "no country for old men". He was the old store clerk Javier bardems' character was about to kill, but left it to chance with a coin toss. The old man lived. It was a great scene.

Oooh. Nice catch.
