I actually seem to like this version a bit more than other ones. It has less "anger" if I'd say so, but more soul and thoughts in it. I'm talking about the manner of singing. It's like Javert is really standing outside somewhere and talking to the sky. I also like the ending here better, the song goes from being calm to loud and then returns to being calm in the end. Great harmony.

Those string arpeggios make such a difference. Why they were lost in later productions is a mystery to me.

+AntPDC There honestly was no reason to take them out. They made it sound much worse.

I've always loved this song, but I never heard this version of it until now...and I already love it completely

I agree with a lot of the comments. This version of Stars is the best to me because of it's conversational quality.

Isn't this Roger Allum from Endeavour? I heard this version of the show when I borrowed a friend's copy. I ended up buying this on vinyl, which a former friend's dog destroyed when I loaned it to her (her dog bit the record). I haven't heard this version since then. Great to hear the different versions of this number. (PS - Terrence Mann's is my personal favorite, maybe because I met him.) Enjoy!!

2:24 is the part of the music that gets me.
