There was almost definitely a fast reload right before the third shot. You can hear the shotgun's break-action opening and closing really quickly right before it. There is nothing else he could have done with that particular shotgun I can think of that would have explained that sound. That being said, Ash's sheer badass-ness could have easily just willed a third shot out of that boomstick. We may never know.

I like this because it does kinda make you think. Imagine going back only 200 years, nevermind 2000 years with a gun like an ar15. Take the civil war, go back to the civil war with an AR and 100 rd drum and whatever side you were on would be gone. The war would be over. In medieval or ancient Egyptian time, I mean youd basically be a God. Liberty or Death if you had enough ammo, you could take out 50 dudes with spears and bows pretty easily with an automatic rifle. 7.62 and 5.56 can easily go through chainmail or gambeson. But you wouldn't even need to kill all 50. Just shoot it a couple times and they run away because of the scary sounds.

I want to watch all 3 of these in a row. It's really insane how this series starts off as just horror and then gradually adds more comedy as it goes along. In the 1st evil dead, Ash shows genuine fear, and by the 3rd one all the paranormal stuff just seems like a mild inconvenience to him. In a way, the Evil Dead is just chronicling a man's descent into madness and, in a weird way, acceptance lmao

You can see noticeable changes in Ash's behavior, especially in the "Army of Darkness". In the first two parts, he was a worker in S-Mart supermarket, an ordinary guy from Michigan who liked to spend time with friends and girls and only Necronomicon and that night in the cabin divided his life before and after. If earlier Ash was a confused survivor who was afraid of Demons, now he is a brash, cynical, a little insane, but brave Deadite Slayer, who mercilessly kills them with chainsaw and BOOMstick. What is remarkable is that he is no longer afraid of Demons, rather they annoy him more. And it's this gradual change that makes Ash make him interesting anti-hero. Moreover, Ash is so badass that his image influenced games such as "DOOM" and his famous phrases were repeatedly quoted by Duke Nukem and Undead Gunslinger from "BLOOD". Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have created one of the most iconic and groovy horror characters.

I heard rumors that they are working on a new Evil Dead film as a possible sequel with Bruce Campbell. It's suppose to either take place after the second film and possibly after Army of Darkness. For a while they weren't able to reference Army of Darkness in any Evil Dead material because it's owned by a different production company. However, supposedly they now have permission to use it. I love this film so much. It inspired me to get a Stoeger Coach Gun, too. Notice when he's brandishing it, the barrel looks about 18 inches long? Then, in the scene where he spins it, the barrel has been shortened considerably. I wonder why they didn't stick with the sawed-off look from Evil Dead II?

There's a sequel series. Although apparently the first two seasons act like Army of Darkness never happened, but then the third & final season does. But then again, anyone who saw the first three movies should know that the timeline & continuity being messed up is nothing new for this franchise.
