Ornette's influence on ALL contemporary music--not just jazz--may still not be fully appreciated yet. He had the balls, like few others in the late 50's,to play with such well-crafted freedom. All of us music folks should be eternally grateful!!

What a great tune. In Haden's solo, before he plays "Old Joe Clark", he plays another folk song, "You've Got to Walk that Lonesome Valley."

Mink 1973

Also used in Sex & Drugs & Rock n Roll by Ian Dury & The Blockheads.

RIP Ornette, this was the 1st track i ever heard many years ago, and the one i play the most. great riff, bass playing is as brilliant as you would expect from CH. Thanks for all that amazing stuff OC.

Another best performance of the Ornette's quartet. Charlie and Ed superb, amazing

Ornette Coleman digs really into the tradition to do modern things. Genius.

Ramblin'... what a track, what a band... what a man! RIP Ornette!

Bass Playing by Charlie Haden is all KILLER, no filler.  The sound of cat gut strings, ya'll.  And Billy Higgins's drumming is other-worldly here. Never heard drums sound like this, before of since.  It's that stellar rhythm section and the refreshing tune itself that really makes "Ramblin'" the masterpiece it is. AND Ornette's wailing alto solo, too, of course.  RIP, Ornette, Don, Charlie and Mr. Higgins.  It's so sad to see you all go!

Plus Don Cherry was a bluesy talker on that tiny trumpet.
