Oro Norteno Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Oro Norteño's song "Una llamada" describe the brutal and unforgiving nature of the mafia. The song tells the story of a call that comes through to the boss, Javier Orozco, informing him that one of his men, Guero, has been captured while getting off a plane. The lyrics suggest that Guero was a "soplon," or informant, which is the ultimate betrayal in the mafia. Javier Orozco gives the order for his men to find the informant and bring him back to him to be dealt with before sunrise. He is determined to make an example of the traitor, to show that he doesn’t forgive betrayal and that his business is for the men, not for the squealers.

The lyrics continue with the story of how his men head towards the bay where they believe the informant is hiding. Javier is angry and wants the informant, who has disgraced him, let alone his family's honor, to be killed and buried six feet under. As the story progresses, the informant is killed, and Javier receives the news that the "soplon" is dead. However, the song ends with a dark note that suggests that the mafia operates all over the country, and despite the death and capture of the informant, the mafia continues to operate with impunity.
