Orphaned Land is a doom/death band at its core, but they are highly influenced by the folk music and tradition of the Oriental Jews (Mizraḥim), making their sound much more progressive than typical doom/death bands. Their album Sahara (1994) was the first to include a combination of death metal and traditional oriental music. In their second album El Norra Alila (1996), Orphaned Land elaborated the combination of metal and oriental music, including the addition of song with traditional oriental Jewish piyyut and Arab melodies. This album conveyed a message of co-existence between Jews and Muslims. Their third album, Mabool (the Hebrew name for the Deluge, depicted in the Bible and Noah's story), 2004, was worked for seven years and takes the combination of doom/death metal, oriental music and biblical issues to a new level. The album tells the story of the seventh son of God (who was divided into three, each one symbolizing one monotheistic religion) which try to warn humanity from a coming flood (deluge) as punishment for their sins. Musically, the album contains oriental instruments, two choruses, traditional Yemenite chants sung by Shlomit Levi and quotes of Biblical verses from the story of the Deluge, read by Kobi Farhi, Orphaned Land's vocalist and one of its founders. The level of musical competency displayed in the heavy layering and orchestration combined with the more story-driven, conceptual nature of the album's lyrics as a whole lend a very strong progressive feel to the work.

Find Your Self Discover God
Orphaned Land Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the truth you can't deny, I shall never die
Together we shall fly
You will find your God the only one
You are his begotten son
Beyond the mystic sky
I know that I can fly
I paved wlone with love
You know the only thing I want is to love
How can I lie within you now?
God of darkness, God of light,
In my soul day or night,
I ride the shadows, yet live in light and cry...
"If a man could pass through the paradise in a dream
And has a flower presented to him as a pledge
Thus his soul had been here" (Nathaniel Hawthorne)
As I awaken from slumber my mind filled with sights unreal
My only wish is to see you lie
To make your soul forever fly
You will fly beyond the mystic sky
You will lie again with the lord, Allah!
The song "Find Your Self Discover God" by Orphaned Land carries deep spiritual meaning throughout the lyrics. The song's message is about finding oneself and discovering God in the process. The first line "Find your self, discover God" implies that the journey to finding God starts from within oneself. The next line confirms the power of the truth, and how it cannot be denied. The lyrics are carefully crafted to bring out the idea that this journey to finding God leads to eternal life, as stated in the line "I shall never die".
The song's chorus reinforces the unity that comes with discovering God, with the lines "Together we shall fly, You will find your God the only one, You are his begotten son". The message here is about finding one's place in the world and discovering one's identity through God. The verses also stress the importance of love, as the singer repeats the line "the only thing I want is to love". The next few lines mention the duality of God, represented by both light and darkness.
The ending of the song is a poetic description of a paradise-like dream, in which an individual is presented with a flower as a pledge that their soul had been there. Finally, the song ends with a wish to see the listener fly beyond the mystic sky and lie with the Lord. Overall, the song's lyrics blend beautifully with the melody to create an immersive and introspective experience for the listener.
