What's Going On
Orthodox Celts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't really know what's going on
Something changing inside of you
Some feelings you don't recognize
There is something so surprise
Then you don't really know what's goin' on

I imagine now you must have been surprised
Discovering the things I talk about
Drops it like a twisted night
That etternally will change your life
Then you don't really know what's going on

You don't know what's really going on (what's going on)
You don't know what's really going on (what's going on)

Remember all the smiles you gave to me
The meaning has been changed, got to see
Who knows what tomorrow brings
Yesterday was a different thing
And maybe you will feel what's going on

You don't know what's really going on (what's going on)
You don't know what's really going on (what's going on)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Orthodox Celts' song "What's Going On" speak to the confusion and uncertainty that can come with personal change and growth. The opening lines address this sense of disorientation, suggesting that when we experience deep emotional shifts, it can be difficult to understand what exactly is happening. The second verse of the song continues to explore this theme, with the singer imagining that their revelations may come as a surprise to someone else who is unaware of their internal struggles.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "You don't know what's really going on," which serves to emphasize the feelings of confusion and isolation that can come with undergoing significant personal transformation. Prior to this, the singer reflects on memories of a past relationship that has been altered by their newfound awareness. The song closes with the suggestion that the listener too may experience these kinds of changes, and that the future remains unknown.

Overall, "What's Going On" is a poignant reflection on the complexities of personal growth and the challenge of communicating this growth to others. It expresses the confusion and uncertainty that can come with undergoing deep changes, while also acknowledging the potential for personal growth and a future filled with new possibilities.

Orthodox Celts is one of my all time favorite bands. If I learned anything from them, it's the value of the number seven. Why seven? Because that's the maximum number of people you can have in a Celtic music band all at once.
