Osmond Collins was born in Jamaica, West Indies and immigrated to the United States as a young teen. It wasn't long before his love for music took him to a place of discovery. Marge Grudzinski, a music teacher in his high school, recognized his gifts and fostered his talents. In his high school years he continued to be given lead vocal for the songs sung by the school boys chorus and gained much of his initial stage experience. Coming from Jamaica, he was quite shy and unexposed to the world of performance but from that stage he went on to sing in church and after high school in his college years he entered the secular industry professionally.
Signing management contracts with an experienced music composer Elmo Christian, he learned much more about stage performance and also developed his arranging skills. In desperate times when no one could play his music he in seconds learned to play the piano. This was the first of many amazing miracles of his life. Osmond signed contracts with MCA Records after three years with Elmo. He soon discovered however that his love for the secular music business had died and his passion for Christ and Christian music had come to full bloom. Although the timing was off he surrendered the contract with MCA to head in a new market unfamiliar to him from a business point. It has not been without its ups and downs because after his contract with Elmo was up he went out entirely on his own.
Although during his years he performed on the bill with the likes of Stevie Wonder Melba Moore and many others, he was to discover a challenge would face his career. It got very quiet. Osmond went through moments of discouragement but with a prayer in the back of his mind he kept going on. When he surrendered his contract and entered Christian music, he prayed a prayer, "Lord don't let me go out there until you have sufficiently prepared me." During the years he was on the bill with the likes of Marvin and Vicki Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Curt Carr and the concert choir. After seven years of incubation, Osmond rediscovered an old high school friend Dennis Washington, who showed up needing assistance on his job. This one encounter lead to his first gospel CD and the resurrection of Osmond's career. "Exalted One" was birthed out of a 40 day fast and restored Osmond's dwindling ability to receive music inspiration from the Lord. This album introduced him to the European market and Africa. Since this encounter with Dennis and the birth of "Exalted One", Osmond ministered for Benny Hinn in New Jersey, T.D. Jakes in Nigeria, Jackie McCullah and many others.
His European connections lead him to Tony Rich, gospel A&R person for Jet Star in the UK. Tony was to become one of Osmond's most valuable friends who introduced him to the reggae arena. As a result of this relationship, Osmond's true writing skill started to show up in "Walk the Walk", "Do It Again", numerous compilations and now to his most recent album, "He Will Restore".
Osmond's music hasn't taken long to rise because his heart has always been fixed on one thing; reaching the masses for the glory of God. His unique style of reggae and music in general has managed to reach people of many religions, colors and race. His music has brought strong towering men to their knees and touched the hearts of both all ages from infants to seniors. Osmond's ministry is well rounded and deliberate at the same time. He has risen many times for stretches of months to number one status on various reggae and gospel charts. Osmond has even had the honor to sing before kings and his music is even a part of the music collection of the King of Lesotho Southern Africa who at the time had hundreds of wives. Who knows if they were listening as well!

GR: How did you begin doing music?
OC: I suppose music was always a part of me. I'd find myself going around humming little melodies that no one has written as yet. In high school I had a chance given to me by a very sharp teacher who picked out my voice in a crowd of students when I was only visiting the class. She invited me to join the class and the rest was history if I may say. That began my training and from there I went into professional music after high school and during college years. I started out doing secular and soon discovered I was not going to be happy doing it for the rest of my career so I followed my true love, which was to sing for my Lord. Money was never an issue because I made money and lots of it doing secular but if your spirit is not at peace nothing else truly matters.
GR: What is the most valuable lesson that you learned from your Mom or Dad growing up that you still apply today?
OC: I think the most valuable lesson learned from my parents is to not allow what others think of me to determine whether I go forward or not. When we are faced with opposition, primarily discouraging words and thoughts of others it is important to know myself and my ability and more importantly what it is that God says concerning my mission.
GR: What has been the greatest mistake that you have made in ministry and learned from? How have you used this experience to change the way you approach ministry?
OC: I believe so far the greatest mistake I made or should I say the one that comes to mind is that I went under management with someone without really listening to God. I made money and the fact that he had lots of it determine my actions. I heard God say no but I thought I could help God along by joining with the man who said he could do something for my advancement in ministry. In one of my family prayer sessions I gave my family a message which I received for myself also God can handle his own business and in fact I wept before God profusely because I realized I have been guilty of trying to do His job.
GR: I know that you have written a whole heap of songs in the past, but what's your favorite one? Now, If that is too hard for you to answer, then tell me this; if you spent 5 minutes with an avid reggae fan and only had enough time to play them one of your songs, which one would you play them?
OC: I suppose that I would play "He Will Restore" because it is a message that I believe every human being as well as living creature needs to hear. God is in the restoration business
GR: Is there any song that you wrote in the past that you are embarassed about? Anything that you wish you could make disappear?
OC: As for gospel no. I regret no songs. Secular songs I don't have a song that was published that I regret but one in my archive that only a select few heard. If it will ever disappear I must leave out the name.
GR: What were the last 5 CDs that you put in your disc changer?
OC: : He Will Restore, Walk The Walk, Papa Sans " God And I", Andre Crouch, Do It Again.

GR: What's your favorite verse in the Bible and why?
OC: Zechariah 4:6, "Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts."
As I said earlier one of my lessons learned in life is not to try to help God by doing what He was meant to do. I have found that everything I have attempted to do on my own strength was fruitless. I live a restricted life because God doesn't really allow me to do my own thing so to speak.
GR: What Bible character do you most identify yourself with?
OC: I believe I would more attach myself to Joseph because I believe that I was called out of my family to make a way for the rest. I wouldn't say I was rejected but since childhood I have had a vision of great things and I do believe my life has paralleled his in a number of ways.
GR: As Christians, God is of course our true inspiration, but beyond the generic response of "Jesus," what are your muses in your life (for lack of a better word)? For example, what are the people, places, or things that trigger a fresh musical idea and ultimately a new song for you?
OC: If you must use the word muse I would say that life in general is my muse. Numerous things inspire me. including the people who do things to me as well as to others. I suppose that is why I can never run out of ideas.
GR: What is the best audience that you have ever played in front of?
OC: Although I have ministered before a number of audiences, there was one group of kindergarten students in Johannesburg South Africa that I believe I enjoyed most. They were a small group and they came from poor families, primarily single parent homes. The parents were sometimes drug users prostitutes and abused women. They gravitated to my songs, which were some of my children's songs like metal to a magnet.
GR: What goes through your mind before you go onstage at the average show?
OC: I always think of my past and pray that nothing I did will ever hinder the flow of the blessings that are especially for anyone in the audience.
Ministry
Changing worlds one song at a time: I believe that my purpose on this earth is clear. It is evident that I have come to be a challenger of spirits. There are numerous spirits out there and in order to further the kingdom of God I as well as others must stand strong against the wilds of the enemy and fight by way of our faith filled prayers and through fasting through our constant walk under the direction and anointing of the one true Father Jehovah God. As a psalmist I believe that I as well as many others have the distinct responsibility to the body of Christ and the world at large. Therefore I am very careful to listen to the Lord as each song is penned and breathed out.
