Otis Rush Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All the loving is loving, all the kissin' is kissing
All the loving is loving, all the kissin' is kissing
Before I met you baby, never knew what I was missing

All your love, pretty baby, that I got in store for you
All your love, pretty baby, that I got in store for you
I love you pretty baby, well I say you love me too
All your loving, pretty baby, all your loving, pretty baby
All your loving, pretty baby, all your loving, pretty baby
Since I first met you baby, I never knew what I was missing

Hey, hey baby, hey, hey baby

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby, oh, oh, baby
Since I first met you baby, never knew what I was missing

Overall Meaning

Otis Rush's song "All Your Love" is a blues classic that delves into the sentiments of a man who has found love and is experiencing its wonders for the first time. The chorus repeats "All the loving is loving, all the kissin' is kissing" to emphasize the idea that the love he's experiencing is pure and genuine. As he sings, "Before I met you baby, never knew what I was missing," he acknowledges the emptiness that he had been experiencing before he found love. He is quite taken by this love, as he tells his partner that he has "All your love, pretty baby, that I got in store for you."

The verses continue to express his newfound love in different ways, with the repetition of "All your loving, pretty baby." With every line, the message remains consistent; he never knew what he was missing until he found her. In essence, the song is a poetic ode to the transformative power of love, which has brought this man to a place of greater happiness and fulfillment. By repeating the same phrases, the song creates a hypnotic and emotional effect that many listeners can relate to, as they've perhaps gone through similar experiences.

La Banda del Galpón.Rock Band.
The tune does appear to be based on Otis Rush's "All your love" which was in turn based on
"Lucky Lou" by Jody Williams.
Peter Green (FMc) composed "Black Magic Woman" and also his
"I loved another woman" has its origins in this blues progression.
Carlos Santana then recorded his own version of "Black Magic woman" and made it famous
Pat Boyack a fine guitarist composed "Lovers Rhumba" based on this too.
Bob Dylan keeping music up-to-date and yet taking the good things from the past, called it "Beyond Here Lies Nothin' "
and The Rhythm Hounds played it as "Lover's Rhumble" or "Lover's Rhumba,
on their (2014) album "Mystery Walk".
