The band has sold over five million albums worldwide, won four Juno Awards, and ten MuchMusic Video Awards. OLP has released eight studio albums to date, with "Clumsy" often being considered the most popularized of the set. The Heavyweight Songfacts reports that their eighth studio album Curve was recorded from 2010 through 2012 at vocalist Raine Maida's home recording studio. It was released on April 3, 2012.
Full circle: a theme that eagerly resonates with each member of multiplatinum survivors, Our Lady Peace. As the band approached the release of their seventh studio album, a feeling of renewal and excitement washed over Torontoβs favorite sons in a manner not felt since their earliest days.
Self-produced in lead singer Raine Maidaβs Los Angeles home studio, the 10-track Burn Burn (in stores July 21 2009), marks the longest period between studio albums for Our Lady Peace. It also signifies a sonic and philosophical rebirth. The band now enjoys a creative and professional freedom that they havenβt experienced since the release of their now classic debut. βI think about the way we made Naveed,β Maida recalls. βWe were just starting, we knew nothing about the business and we had no expectations. It was four guys in a room just trusting their instincts. We went back to that. βLiberatingβ doesnβt really even sum it up.β
Burn Burn is a triumphant return to what Maida terms βa proper, mature rock album,β steeped in the kind of raw intensity that drove their early material. Blinding rays of anthemic light make way to the tender poise and precision of a band that was looking for a way out and found a satisfying new way in.
With caution thrown to the wind, tracks such as the stunningly arranged βDreamlandβ and the overpowering first single, βAll You Did Was Save My Life,β soar above angry clouds of confusion and insecurity with an ascending clarity that can only come from experience and growth.
The pounding affirmation of βThe Right Stuffβ and the vigilant build of band favorite βRefuge,β also reinforce the notion that OLP now occupy a unique and enviable mindspace. βWeβre not looking back with any kind of regret,β Maida points out, βbut weβve been doing this long enough now that we know what we want to say. We didnβt want to compromise a thing.β
Having scattered in different directions after the release of 2005βs Healthy In Paranoid Times, all four members took on projects of their own, ranging from solo records, production and songwriting work, tours and guest performances. Over the last two years, Raine Maida, guitarist Steve Mazur, bassist Duncan Coutts and drummer Jeremy Taggart sporadically reconvened and lived at Madiaβs home, creating what he calls their best effort to date.
Members would leave each session without tapes, giving themselves a much fresher perspective on the material they created when they returned. Producing themselves and an adherence to rolling tape off the floor gave birth to an urgent, natural body of work. βWe didnβt put a lot of pressure on ourselves,β Coutts confirms. βWe left things alone and haven't done that in a long time."
βFor us,β adds Maida, βa big part of this band is playing live. It has to be something that weβre going to enjoy; a real dynamic collection of songs. When we really started to understand that, the record took on this whole other life.β
This work ethic allowed room for guitarist Steve Mazur, who joined the band in 2002, to blossom on Burn Burn. βOn this album I really felt comfortable with my role and what I sound like as the guitarist of Our Lady Peace.β Mazur shines on tracks such as βEscape Artistβ and βPaper Moon,β a song where Mazurβs solowork was nailed on the first go-round.
Our Lady Peace is also striking out on their own professionally this time around, opting for what the band terms a βtrue partnershipβ with both North American record labels. βWeβve never been this prepared for an album,β adds OLP founding member Jeremy Taggart. βIn the past, weβve never had the foresight to have maybe two or three singles in the can already with videos, etc.β
βNobody knows us better than ourselves,β Taggart continues. βWe didnβt over think a good song or idea or under think anything. The good songs really picked themselves.β
Sorry

Today's the blood from a stone
Today's a light from a candle
Helping us to find our way home
Today we carry each other
Today the past is a freak
Today's a time for forgiveness
(Welcome to this world of mine)
I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Yeah
Today's tasting the honey
Today's the strike of a match
And today's the lines in the pavement
Helping us to find our way back
Today's the crosses we carry
Today's the strength that we need
And today's the hand of an angel
You were not the kind to believe
(Welcome to this world of mine)
I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Yeah
Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
And oh my God, and oh my God, yeah
Today we carry each other
Today we do what we should
Today's a time for forgiving
Today I wish I could
I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning, I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye, yeah
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, bye
The song "Sorry" by Our Lady Peace is about forgiveness, redemption, and self-awareness. The verses describe the struggles and pain that the singer has experienced, while the choruses express the desire to apologize and let go of negative feelings. The line "Today's a time for forgiveness, you were never that good to me" suggests that the singer is not only apologizing for their past mistakes, but also realizing that they have been wronged in the past and acknowledging the hurt they feel.
The song also contains imagery of light and darkness to represent the contrast between the pain of the past and the hope for the future. "Today's the blood from a stone" could refer to the difficulty of finding hope in a bleak situation, while "Today's a light from a candle" represents the possibility of finding a way out of the darkness.
Overall, "Sorry" is a song about the healing power of forgiveness and self-awareness, and the importance of letting go of negative feelings in order to move forward.
