Our Last Night Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Where no one will ever find you
You were sent to destroy the world
You were meant to be the end
Of hope for all mankind
I'd been wasting away
I let you get away so cleanly
By now my hope for you has fleeted me
They will dig a hole and bury you
I wasted away so many days in hell
I wasted away so many days in hell with you
You were sent to destroy the world
You were meant to be the end
Of hope for all mankind
I've wasted away so many days in knowing you
I let you get away so cleanly
Without a trace, without a sound
By now my hope for you has fleeted me
(Fleeted me)
I was a walking dead man living the truth
With a liar by my side
I was a walking dead man living the truth
With a liar by my side
I let you get away so cleanly
Without a trace, without a sound
By now my hope for you has fleeted me
I let you get away so cleanly
Without a trace, without a sound
By now my hope for you has fleeted me
I let you get away without a sound
You were sent to destroy the world
The lyrics to Our Last Night's song Elephants describe the feeling of being betrayed by someone who was supposed to be a partner but turned out to be a destructive influence. The song opens with the lines "They will lock you up and throw away the key, where no one will ever find you. You were sent to destroy the world," effectively setting the scene for the story of someone who was on a path of destruction, harming those around them along the way. The singer goes on to express their disappointment and struggle, acknowledging that they had wasted time and energy on this person, "I'd been wasting away... I wasted away so many days in hell with you."
The chorus amplifies the message of the song, with the repeated lines "You were sent to destroy the world, you were meant to be the end, of hope for all mankind." It's a heavy message to hear, and combined with the music, it makes for an intense listening experience that captures the emotions of the story.
Later in the song, the lyrics "I was a walking dead man living the truth, with a liar by my side" highlight the conflicting emotions felt by someone who has been betrayed by someone they trusted. The final lines of the song "I let you get away without a sound, You were sent to destroy the world" emphasize the need to let go of the negative influences in our lives, even if it's difficult.
Overall, Our Last Night's Elephants is a powerful song that speaks to the pain and loss that come with being betrayed by someone who was supposed to be on your side.

Not gonna comment on new OLN cause I respect what they're doing, but I will say this: early Our Last Night made some of the best post-hardcore I've ever heard, and for that reason, I will always love them. The Ghosts Among Us and (especially) We Will All Evolve are albums that I listen to to this day. I miss this era
peoples
I prefer actually understanding what they're saying, so newer is for me.

@peoples Its something your ears get trained to hear over time, ive been listening to screams in music for so long that its pretty easy to hear the lyrics now but back when i started it literally sounded like someone just screaming gibberish into the mic, thats what puts a lot of people off from heavier metal and rock genres, they cant understand the lyrics so they stop listening but if they would just google the lyrics they would understand the screaming is there to display emotion
Deepgoat
@peoples Is that your only requirement? Understanding? You don't even understand that they're completely different types of music now lmao
Zoksss
@Deepgoat they are not completely different type of music. They just adopted thier sound to the broader audiance so everyone enjoy something.
Deepgoat
@Zoksss It's a whole different music bro. They grew up.
