Voices
Our Last Night Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Welcome to a place where me and you
Could search but never find the truth
And while the money speaks for the kings and queens
We bite our tongues until they bleed

They take our voices away
They take our voices away
No matter what we do or say
They try to make us fade away
They take our voices away

We are enchanted youth with misguided views
The more they win the more we lose
And while the wealthy cheat we're on our hands and knees
We give the most but get the least

They take our voices away
They take our voices away
No matter what we do or say
They try to make us fade away
They take our voices away

Over time we've been removed
And now our lives are black and blue
Today's our chance to get our choices back
To finally live the life we've planned

They take our voices away
They take our voices away
No matter what we do or say

They try to make us fade away
They take our voices away

Overall Meaning

"Our Last Night" song Voices reflects on the current state of society where people's voices are suppressed, and the wealthy and powerful rule the world. In this song, the artists express their frustration with the system that has taken away the freedom of speech and the belief that one's opinion matters. The song speaks to the fact that people are becoming more and more disenfranchised with the political system, and they feel that their voices are not heard.

The lyrics in the song start by addressing both the artist and the listener that they are in a place where they cannot find the truth. The truth is something that everyone deserves, but it seems to be elusive, and this is due to the powerful people in society. The artists suggest that money speaks for the kings and queens, which means that those who are wealthy have more power and influence over those who are not. The idea that speaking out against the powerful can be harmful is reflected in the image of biting our tongues until they bleed. This image signifies the cost of speaking out against those who hold more power.

Throughout the song, the lyrics repeat the chorus, "They take our voices away" emphasizing that people's voices are being silenced. The lyrics call out the toxic injustice that is happening and reflects the frustration people have towards the situation. The artists suggest that the youth of today have misguided views because the wealthy people cheat, and the more they win, the more the average person loses. However, through perseverance and change, there is hope that voices will be regained, and people will take control of their lives.

Nikolai Molander, I'd hate to bring it up, but for as much sense(*) as I'm sure it makes, you equalize by creating a message truly as indecipherable as the Navajo code written out, the language has no writing; let that blood flow through your veins in vain because a 16 year old makes you look like a child while speaking, what is likely, your first language. There are few people that can create works of art such as this, but it seems those able to understand them may be fewer, unfortunately; however, I can't say I am able to properly interpret the great things I hear-much like the voices- (😂 oh, bad jokes, my only redeeming quality.) I am not smart enough to see, entirely, what they mean in this, or any other, song, like the vast majority.
