Hey Ya!
OutKast Lyrics

One, two, three, uh

My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know fo sho (uh)
But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me walk out the door? (Ah)
Don't try to fight the feeling
Because the thought alone is killin' me right now (uh)
Thank God for Mom and Dad
For sticking two together
'Cause we don't know how (c'mon)

Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!

You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But got it just don't get it 'til there's nothin' at all
We get together
Oh, we get together
But separate's always better when there's feelings involved
If what they say is
"Nothing is forever"
Then what makes, then what makes
Then what makes, then what makes (what makes, what makes)
Love the exception?
So why, oh, why, oh
Why, oh, why, oh, why, oh
Are we so in denial when we know we're not happy here?
(Y'all don't want to hear me, you just want to dance)

Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Don't want to meet your daddy
Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Just want you in my Caddy (Uh oh)
Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Don't want to meet your mama
Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Just want to make you cum-a (Uh oh)
Hey ya! (Uh oh)
I'm, I'm, I'm just being honest (Uh oh)
I'm just being honest

Hey! Alright now
Alright now, fellas (Yeah?)
Now, what cooler than being cool? (Ice cold!)
I can't hear you
I say what's, what's cooler than being cool? (Ice cold!)

Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright, alright

Okay, now ladies (Yeah?)
Now, we gon' break this thang down in just a few seconds
Now, don't have me break this thang down for nothin'
Now, I want to see y'all on y'all baddest behavior
Lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor
Ah! Here we go

Shake it, shake, shake it, shake it, shake, shake it (Uh oh)
Shake it, shake, shake it, shake it, shake it (Uh oh)
Shake it like a Polaroid picture, hey ya!

Shake it, shake, shake it, shake it, shake, shake it
Shake it, shake it, shake it, sugar
Shake it like a Polaroid picture

Now, all Beyonce's, and Lucy Liu's
And baby dolls
Get on the floor

Get on the floor, you know what to do
You know what to do
You know what to do

Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)
Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)

BOBMAN1980

I remember the first--and then second--time I heard this song.
I was on a frantic road trip around the USA immediately after my deployment to Iraq in 2003. (I told a fellow Marine all I wanted to do was hit the road at 100-miles/hour and scream the whole way.)
Coming into SF via Oakland, switching the car radio around, this song popped up. I was blown away--never heard anything like it. I thought it was a new, experimental genre of music.
It was immediately followed by some drull, typical pop R&B song, without any mention of what I heard.
I thought I'd lost the song forever. . .just something obscure that accidentally got radio play.
Months later I found out not only who it was, but that it was a POPULAR song. The lyrics, the novelty, the heart, the melody, the depth & sincerity . .and being a HIT. It gave me hope in a country seemingly gone mad with depravity, violent ignorance, and bloodlust. . .that people would yearned for this real shit meant we weren't completely lost.
The DJ played it at the club afterparty I went to with a few of my fellow Marines after our Birthday Ball. My girlfriend grabbed me by the arm at our table, exclaimed, "this is the song I was telling you about!" and we ran for the dance floor, getting down with love and excitement, eyes locked damn straight on one another, she in her black skirt, me sweating up my Service Alphas. (I never owned Blues.)
The song ended. Amidst the chaos of bodies on the dance floor, a cooling fog was poured from the ceiling for the crowd. A moment without any music (that I can remember), my girlfriend and I grabbed in to each other with all of our passion and strength.
There was clamor, and we were part of it. But at that moment it was just us.

One of those rare songs that broke the genre barrier. It didn't matter if you were a rocker, country fan, rap fan, etc. Everyone liked this song.

The biggest example of when you're happy, you enjoy the music and when you're sad, you understand the lyrics.
