Sorrow
Out Cold Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let's pin our hopes on a rusty rail
When the suburbs sleeping and the citys all fists and finger nails
I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

Love turned sour, it don't belong
Don't waste your crying on the prying eyes and poisoned tongues
I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

Since I laid my sorrow down
I've seen darkness drifting down the line

Lipstick lovers and the sequinned hearts
Teetering heels of the high rise dancing in the dark
I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

Lets raise our faces in the broad daylight
My soft skin disco dancing, take me out tonight
I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

Since I laid my sorrow down
I've seen darkness drifting down the line
The line, down the line

Lovin' you it ain't a crime
Lovin' you it ain't a crime

Lovin' you it ain't a crime
Lovin' you it ain't a crime

Lovin' you it ain't a crime
Lovin' you it ain't a crime

I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

I don't wanna be alone
I don't wanna be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Out Cold's "Sorrow" showcase themes of hopelessness, loneliness, and desperation. The singer is searching for a connection with someone - anyone - in a world that feels disheartening and cruel. The opening lines suggest that the character is willing to place their faith in something as unsteady as a "rusty rail" because the alternative is the "city's all fists and finger nails." Even though they're surrounded by people, it feels like no one understands them, and they're deeply afraid of being alone.

As the song progresses, the character longs for a chance to kick back and have some fun - to dance under the glittering lights of a high-rise and feel alive. Despite having the weight of the world on their shoulders, they're willing to let go of their sorrow if it means finding happiness - or even just a little bit of temporary relief. The repeated refrain of "lovin' you it ain't a crime" feels like a desperate plea to anyone who might be listening - a last-ditch effort to convince someone to stick around and keep them company.

Overall, Out Cold's "Sorrow" is a melancholy song that captures the experience of feeling isolated and unsupported in a world that can be incredibly harsh. It's a reminder that sometimes the most vulnerable thing we can do is ask for help and admit that we're not okay.

Criminally underrated record, buy it now. It's a masterpiece.

Quizzer

It's extremely well recorded on vinyl (double LP) and strikes a great mood. I played all four sides tonight, in the dark, so it must have something exceptional about it, for me at least. It's quite high fidelity, and is also good to listen to; an unusual combination.

Bedbear

This is incredible. Sounds familiar yet unique.
