I'm In Love
Outkast Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let's kiss, not fight (mankind)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war (let's put an end to war)
What the hell are we living for?

Let's kiss, not fight ('fore war)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war
What the hell are we living for? (Will put an end to mankind)

Tonight we'll make the prettiest song that no one will ever hear
No one will ever hear
No one will ever
These ain't the times to be alone

Cliche the end is near
Cliche the end is near

Cliche the end is
Quickly approaching while we carry on
No one is promised another day
Why can't the story end like fairy tales often do
Before I let you leave I've got to say

Let's kiss, not fight (mankind)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war (let's put an end to war)
What the hell are we living for?

Let's kiss, not fight (for war)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war
What the hell are we living for? (We'll put an end to mankind)

Let's kiss, not fight (mankind)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war (let's put an end)
What the hell are we living for? (To war)

Let's kiss, not fight (to war, to war, to war, to war)
Try to do what's right tonight
Make love, not war ('fore war)
What the hell are we living for? ('Fore war will put an end to mankind)

Let's kiss, not fight (mankind)
Try to do what's right tonight (mankind)
Make love, not war (must put an end)
What the hell are we living for?

Let's kiss, not fight (to war)
Try to do what's right tonight ('fore war)
Make love, not war
What the hell are we living for? (Will put an end to mankind)

(Mankind)

(Must put an end)
(To war, to war, to war, to war)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I'm In Love" by Outkast convey a strong message of peace and love. The chorus emphasizes the need to choose love over violence and war, as it questions the purpose of living in a world where conflict and destruction are prevalent. The first verse calls for unity and understanding between individuals, rather than fighting amongst each other. The second verse highlights the urgency of the situation and the need to act before it's too late.

However, the song also touches on the theme of isolation and the feeling of helplessness in the face of impending doom. The bridge portrays the idea that the end is near and that nobody is safe, but the singer still has a message of love to share. The line "Tonight we'll make the prettiest song that no one will ever hear" implies that sometimes it's just the act of creating something beautiful that brings meaning, even if nobody else gets to experience it.

Overall, "I'm In Love" is a powerful call to action, urging people to choose love and peace over hate and war, even though it may seem like a cliche at times. It's a reminder that we are all in this together and that we must work to make the world a better place before it's too late.

Sure thing. In the way of fusion, this song kinda has a slow Stanley Clarke/George Duke vibe. I'm just gonna list some 70's fusion artists and a few of my favorite albums of theirs. If you have any specific styles you're looking for, let me know, and I'll try to point you that way.

Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior (the track 'Sorceress' has a great groove)
Chick Corea - Light as a Feather ('Spain' is a great track)
Stanley Clarke - School Days, I Wanna Play For You
Billy Cobham - Spectrum (You MUST hear this), Crosswinds, Total Eclipse, Simplicity of Expression
Jean-Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messanger, Imaginary Voyage
George Duke - Live on Tour in Europe, Face the Music (I like his later stuff, Chillin', Let's Roll, My Piano, etc.)
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters ('Watermelon Man' so good!), Secrets
Passport - Infinity Machine (track 'Ostinato' is awesome)
Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy, Land of the Midnight Sun
Victor Wooten - Show of Hands, Soul Circus (from the 90's, but he's a great bass player. He started with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, also fantastic)

As far as fusion goes, I love the deep groove, in the pocket stuff. I also really like the driving upbeat stuff, but sometimes it can get a little too out there for me. Chick Corea is great, but he plays a million notes a second, and that doesn't quite do it for me.

My favorite fusion guys are Cobham and Jean-Luc. Check out that Spectrum album. The first side is driving, a million miles an hour, and the second side is real laid back, groovy stuff. It's amazing. Very raw and genuine. They did it at Electric Lady, studio in Greenwich Village built for Jimi. Awesome space. I had the privilege of working there last year. Lots of history.

Anyway, check that stuff out. You're bound to dig some of it. You play? What kind of music are you into?

Andre paved the way for the Frank oceans, miguel's, joji's, tyler the creator's, childish gambino's and many others music we enjoy today. His vision and artistry was beyond his time.

The one artist that comes to mind while hearing this is THUNDERCAT. It literally sounds like he influenced him as well.
