Bleed Me
Overkill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bleed me, Let it out slow suck me dry
You got to feed me take me down low
Where those angels fly
ain't nothing that I need no more
Like a full truckload of pain
All over like the final score
With a fist full of open veins, you got to bleed me
To all the people that I loved I hated lied
To all my enemies that tried
[CH]
Bleed me
Read me torn out pages in an open book
Got to please me one more razor now before I cook
Getting hotter as the seconds pass
But I'm told that's what I need
Getting colder now it's flowing fast
But I'm told that's why I bleed
To all the people that I loved I hated lied
To all my enemies that tried
[CH]
[BR]
I remember sitting in the open air
I remember calling out your name
I remember clearly that I didn't care
I hadn't changed
I need to go away

I need to leave you here
I need to face my fears

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Overkill's song "Bleed Me" are a portrayal of someone who is seeking out pain and suffering to feel alive. The singer is asking to be bled out slowly and sucked dry, to be taken down low where those angels fly. The singer claims that there is nothing more they need than a truckload of pain, likening it to the final score in a game. The bleeding is necessary for the singer to feel alive, to the point where they ask to be read torn out pages from an open book and request one more razor before they "cook."

The language in the song is full of imagery and metaphor. When the singer says they need to be bled out and fed, they are not talking about actual sustenance but rather emotional release. The use of angels flying low could be considered a reference to "fallen angels," suggesting that the singer is looking for a way to descend into their own personal hell. The mention of "torn out pages" can be seen as a metaphor for the singer's life story being written, with the pain and suffering being mandatory for their existence.

The chorus repeats the phrase "bleed me" and the bridge section talks about the singer wanting to leave and face their fears. This could imply that they are tired of being stagnant and want to move on to either a better or worse situation, whichever makes them feel alive. The song ends without any definitive resolution, leaving the listener to ponder what the singer's path might be.

Alonna Gallow

Overkill should be part of big 4 (or 5). They have many more heavy and killer albums then any of the big 4 . Many more albums in general. every album is thrash . Never did they lighten up. not one bad album. THe only thing that has changed, aside from members, is production , serving only to make them heavier and heavier.  Love em

"The Big Four" is about influence and being pioneers. There are a shit ton of great thrash bands, but those guys defined the genre with their style.

Elk River Muskrat

Alonna Gallow they are top 5

Priest of Sodom

And what about Testament/Death Angel/Exodus/Flotsam And Jetsam/Heathen/Vio-lence/any american thrash metal band? "Big [put any number]" is just bullshit.

I check out a lot of lyric vids and always end up comparing them (unfavourably) to yours. You do a GREAT job (especially with stuff like adding 'album, date and track listing' to the vids). Please keep up the fantastic work!
