To date, Overkill has released nineteen studio albums, an album of cover songs, two EPs, one demo tape and three live albums. They were one of the first thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (having signed to Atlantic Records in 1986), and rose to fame as part of the genre's movement of the mid-to-late 1980s, along with the "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as Exodus and Testament. Overkill achieved their first mainstream success with its second studio album and Atlantic debut, Taking Over (1987), which peaked at number 191 on the Billboard 200. The band's next five studio albums—Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), Horrorscope (1991), I Hear Black (1993) and W.F.O. (1994)—were also successful on the Billboard charts, with the latter two cracking the top ten on the Top Heatseekers chart. Following their split from Atlantic in 1995, Overkill went through some label changes, but continued to enjoy moderate underground success, particularly in Europe and Japan. The band experienced a resurgence of popularity in the U.S. during the 2010s, with three of their studio albums released that decade—The Electric Age (2012), White Devil Armory (2014) and The Grinding Wheel (2017)—reaching the top 100 on the charts. Overkill has sold over 16 million records worldwide; they are also estimated to have sold more than 625,000 records in the United States since the beginning of the SoundScan era.

Never Say Never
Overkill Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Systematic ascention! is a part of me.
I've felt the fire! been taken over.
I'm pushin' forward and getting closer.
From the fire to the streets.
I've seen it all...
I've melted in the heat,
And then a brand new day!
A chance to be reborn.
I've seen another way.
No time to sit and mourn.
There's a light that shines at the tunnel's end.
It lights... my every step.
I came here to win.
Never say never.
Shadows of things that might have been.
Or another sunset simply gone.
Ponder questions without answers.
Indecision spreads like cancer.
Wash the dirt from beneath your nails
One has tried, one has never failed!!!
I'm getting closer, can see the top.
And when I started! knew I'd never stop.
The road was long and hard! the climb was rough.
But to a greater end, ya hang... tough.
Pulled it from inside of me.
It drove me forever.
Didn't want to sit and rot.
Wanted better.
From the fire to the streets.
You never never
Never say never!
Never say never!
No! never! Hey!
The song "Never Say Never" by Overkill is an anthem-like piece that speaks about the unyielding human spirit and its ability to push through difficult times. The lyrics portray the image of a person climbing a mountain, whose ascent is a part of their being. The person has felt the fire and been taken over by it, and is now pushing forward and getting closer to the top. The climb may have been long and hard, and the road may have been rough, but the person is determined to hang tough and see it through to the end. Despite the shadows of things that might have been or the indecision that spreads like cancer, the light at the tunnel's end continues to shine, lighting the way for the person to place one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. The song's message is one of perseverance, resilience, and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

Sabol Kralj My opinion. Agree to disagree. What's your pick? I was also going to say "Black Metal" by Venom.

UBUNTU UBUNTU Your opinion is wrong, any Overkill album can't and isn't the most underrated thrash/speed metal album ever recorded. My pick, even though it probbably isn't the most underrated, would be Morbid Saint's Spectrum Of Death.
EVIL UBUNTU
Sabol Kralj Morbid Saint. That's not bad. I forgot about them completely for years. I had to Google the name.
