Go On
Owens Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've a picture of you--
A parisian street, early morning, late spring.
And I know what you were thinking.
You were taking a break from life. you were traveleing light
(a pair of walking shoes and a sweater).
You were where you were when you pictured where you'd be--
Anywhere but home.
Well it's you last chance to change things.
I know you've been getting by alright,
And alright's okay for the day to day, but for the rest of your life?
An honest face like that,
You just can't take back that easy.
An honest face like that,

I just can't forget too easy.
(god knows I'm trying...)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Owens's song "Go On" are infused with a sense of longing and reflection. The singer lets out that they have a picture of a loved one -- taken on a Parisian street in the early morning of late spring. The details of the picture suggest that the loved one is on a break from their routine, and they aren't carrying much except for a pair of walking shoes and a sweater. But it is the emotions behind the image that are significant - the singer understands what their loved one was thinking at the time of the photograph. The loved one was feeling suffocated and looking to escape from their mundane life. They were yearning for something more than just existing.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of honesty in a relationship - it is something that cannot be forgotten quickly. The singer acknowledges that the loved one has been getting by just fine, but that's only alright for today; tomorrow is a different matter. The last line, "God knows I'm trying," indicates that the singer is aware that the loved one's restlessness is hard to resolve, and they are trying their best to help.

Overall, the lyrics of "Go On" feel personal, poignant, and reflective. The song is about encouraging someone to take a chance and change their life, all the while being honest and supporting them. It is about understanding and accepting that their loved one is seeking more in life and that it can't be undone easily by just one act.

It's hard for a liar to look you in the eye. It is amazing how the more a person talks the dumber they look.

So we are supposed to believe a college journalism dropout knows more about climatology than people who actually have degrees in climate related sciences?

And I'm suppose to believe that men all of a sudden started being able to magically transform into women
within the last 4 to 6 years?

@St. Michael of Cigarillo No, you're supposed to believe that a combination of neurology, endocrinology, and psychology strongly predispose a small number of individuals to strongly identify with what their societies typically define as "masculine" or "feminine" appearance and behavior, which in most of us aligns with our sex chromosomes (XX or XY, though there are a minority of others). This has existed throughout human history, of course, but in the last few decades medical interventions have allowed trans-identified people to alter their bodies to better match their mental states (again, combination of neurological and psychological make-up). Well-supported research shows trans people who receive such interventions have better long-term mental health outcomes in the aggregate. See? No magic involved, it isn't exclusively those who are born male, and such people have existed for thousands of years. Any further questions?

She won a racial discrimination lawsuit and then built a career saying racial discrimination didnt exist. And people dont seem to know that. Very weird all-around.
