Stayin Alive
Ozzy Osbourne & Dweezil Zappa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All aboard the disco train
Alright now, oh, yeah, oh, yeah

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music's loud and women warm
I've been kicked around since I've been born
It's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everyone is shakin'
And stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Everybody on the dance floor, darlin's
We're goin' to dance with the Devil

Well, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose

Now, it's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everyone is shakin'
They're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

It's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

It's all right, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Are you ready, Disco Man

Oh, yeah, all right now
I'm back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ozzy Osbourne's "Stayin' Alive" are a reimagining of the Bee Gees classic hit "Stayin' Alive." The verse "Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man, no time to talk" is a direct quote from the original song. Ozzy's version adds some darker and edgier lyrics while still paying homage to the original disco classic. The opening lines of "all aboard the disco train" and "everybody on the dance floor, darlin's, we're goin' to dance with the Devil" give a different vibe to the song, setting a darker tone.

Ozzy's version also maintains the original's message of resilience and determination to keep going despite adversity. The chorus "whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother, you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive" encourages unity and perseverance. The bridge "we can try to understand, the New York Times' effect on man" alludes to the power of the media and the impact it can have on society.

In summary, Ozzy's "Stayin' Alive" takes the disco classic and adds a darker and more intense twist to the lyrics, while still promoting the message of resilience and perseverance.

Ozzy Osbourne covering this song is the greatest compliment the Beegees could ever receive.

BEST version I've ever herd! But I think Ozzy could sing the phone book & sound good!!

I can only imagine the recording studio during this recording. Dweez and Ozzy in the same room is something I'd love to see.

I never believed anyone could ever cover ANY BeeGees song. You will just never replace their sound... Barry Gibbs voice, etc. That said, wow, i’m blown totally away. by this!! I Never thought a BeeGees song could rock like this!!

@66Sixxy

You should listen to the Foo Fighters as Dee Gees. They do an amazing job. They also have a video of them, dressed in 70s disco garb, trolling the Westboro Baptist Church idiots who came to KC to protest them, again.
