catch me when I'm sleeping
P!nk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And how many times have you told me you were leavin'
I'm not trying to listen
Cause it's all the same
And why
Why are you constantly believin'
That I could give you what you need and
Baby, baby please don't put your faith in me
[Chorus]
You can catch me while I'm sleeping
While I'm dreamin' too
Its a lonely lonely lonely place for me baby
It must get lonely for you too
Them people always fallin'
In and out of love and it can be pretty painful too
And baby oh baby I'm just not strong enough
Sad but true so tell me what's the use?
[Chorus]
So catch me while I'm sleeping
When I'm dreaming too
So catch me while I'm sleeping
[Chorus: x2]
(catch me while I'm falling)
(it's a lonely lonely lonely lonely place)
(must be lonely for you too)
In "Catch Me While I'm Sleeping," P!nk sings of a relationship that is on the rocks, where both parties want different things. The singer is tired of hearing promises of leaving and has stopped listening because nothing seems to change. She admits that she's not capable of giving her significant other what they need, yet they continue to believe in her even though she doesn't know what to say. The chorus reveals that the singer feels lonely in the relationship, and she calls for her partner to catch her while she's sleeping because it's the only time she feels at peace.
P!nk's lyrics in this song are a reflection of the complicated emotions that one can feel in a relationship. The repetitiveness of the promises makes the singer feel confused and indifferent, as nothing seems to change. The concept of one's partner catching them while they're sleeping is an interesting one, as it speaks to a level of vulnerability that is not usually expressed. The singer wants to be rescued from her loneliness, but even then, she can't make any promises. The chorus is melancholic, as it repeats that the scenario is lonely for both parties. Overall, the lyrics are a reflection of a complicated romantic relationship where both parties want different things, and the singer's heart is unsure of the real feelings.

I can't stress how much Pink has kept me sane. I can just relate to her so much! Her music, and her herself has just kept me off the proverbial ledge. She will ALWAYS be my number one favorite artist.

+Chocolate Midnight I was in my late teens early 20's during the era you're talking about and you're exactly right, this definitely has that sound...but to call it old school is crushing. It means I'm getting old! haha

She has a very nice style mixed with elegance and wild. She speaks from the heart and that`s why she writes songs about real stuff.
