god is a dj
P!nk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been a girl with her skirt pulled high
Been the outcast never running with mascara eyes
I see the world
As a candy store
With a cigarette smile saying things you can't ignore
Like, mommy I love you
Daddy I hate you
Brother I need you
Love or hate, fuck you, I can see everything
Here with my third eye
Like the blue in the sky

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm, you are the music
If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
You get what you're given it's all how you use it

I've been a girl with her finger in the air
Unaffected by rumors the truth I don't care
So open your mouth, stick out your tongue
Might as well let go, you can't take back what you've done
Just find a new life style, reason to smile
Look for nirvana, under the strobe lights
Sequins and sex strings
You whisper to me
There's no reason to cry

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm, you are the music
If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
You get what you're given it's all how you use it

Take what you get and get what you give
I said don't run from yourself, man, that's no way to live( no, no)
I've got a record in my bag,you should give it a spin
Put your hands in the air so that life can begin

(If God is a DJ, if God, say if God is a dj, if God
Then life is a dance floor)
Get your ass on the dance floor now!

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm, you are the music
If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
You get what you're given it's all how you use it

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm, you are the music
If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
You get what you're given it's all how you use it

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm, you are the music

If God is a DJ, life is a dance floor
You get what you're given it's all how you use it

Overall Meaning

In "God Is a DJ," P!nk addresses the idea that life is like being in a club, where God is the DJ and we are all dancers. She describes herself as someone who has been both an outcast and a rebel, but who sees the world as a candy store – full of possibilities and excitement. She sings about the power of love and the importance of choosing how we use what God gives us. She also encourages listeners to stop running from themselves and instead embrace their true selves, let go of their mistakes, and start dancing.

P!nk's lyrics highlight how life is like a dance in many ways. Just as we must follow the beat of a song to dance, we must follow the rhythm of life to navigate it. Love is the rhythm of life, and we are the music – we each have our own unique melody and lyrics that make us who we are. If we see life as a dance floor, then we can begin to understand the importance of being present, living in the moment, and choosing how we use what we are given.

What sets "God Is a DJ" apart from other dance songs is its deeper message. P!nk uses the concept of a DJ in a spiritual way, drawing on the idea that music can be transformational and transcendental, much like religion. She suggests that we can access a higher power and connect with something greater than ourselves through music and dance. Overall, the song encourages us to let go of our fears and limitations, embrace our true selves, and dance through life with joy and abandon.

God is telling to live your life
His grace and mercy endures forever
We are the music
Singing to our own beat
Dancing on the sidewalk and the street
We go high and low like a musical note
Always want to do the most
No matter what happens
People of Christ will be happy clapping
MC JC we look up to thee
It’s so heavenly

Hi

@infernicide666

Yeah this was only a minor hit looking back and is less remembered than some of her other hits on albums that followed or the preceding album to this one. It got medium rotation on mtv in early 04’ but quickly disappeared
