P:ano's voice is a diversity of musical and thematic interests, and the band members play several instruments. Nick Krgovich and Larissa Loyva originally started playing together in 1999, and were later joined by Justin Kellam and Julia Chirka to form a cohesive foursome. Their debut release, When It's Dark and It's Summer (zum014/hfr001) was recorded at and co-released by Hive Studios. The band has worked with many prominent Vancouver musicians including Veda Hille, Ida Nilsen, Torston Muller and members of The Beans, Black Mountain, Jerk With a Bomb, Gaze and Standing Wave.
Their second album entitled The Den was recorded over five months in 2003 by Colin Stewart (Destroyer, Hot Hot Heat, Radio Berlin) at The Western Front and The Hive studios. Arranged with keyboards, horns, strings and back-up vocals, the quartet's orchestral lo-fi pop is reminiscent of Rufus Wainwright.
P:ano's third album Brigadoon was released in April 2005 and their fourth album Ghost Pirates Without Heads following in October of the same year.
P:ano side-projects include Burquitlam Plaza, Duplex!, BORING, No Kids, Gigi, Kellarissa, and To Bad Catholics.

Enchanted Forest
P:ano Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To lands both near and far
We're weary in the evening fall
The skies above get dull, I spot enchanted forest
And so I pull over the car and park
Never in all my days
Have I been somewhere so grand
Hand in hand in hand
Through stories that gave you nightmares
When they were read to you in your bed
Of children lost in the woods or stuffed in ovens
Or locked in a cage by a bad man, or a troll
But then we came to some water
And we're in for quite a shock
For four rowboats were tethered
To a slippery and rickety old dock
And we all rowed our boats
Away, away, away, away
Then the rain came and the ducks came
And they did their thing
And we left happy as ever safe and well
And we took pictures lest we forget
There tucked away on the side of the highway
In the mountains cold and gray
Is a castle, a pirate ship, a princess
Some huts and golden flecks
They'll flap and fly when the wind picks up
And things will find a way
And the moon shown all night
The song “Enchanted Forest” by P:ano tells the story of a weary traveler who pulls over in search of a magical forest. The song starts with the traveler reflecting on their long journey and how tired they are, but just as they notice the skies getting dull, they spot the enchanted forest and pull over the car to go explore it. The enchanted forest they discover is so grand that they have never seen anything like it before, and they walk through it together, hand in hand. The forest brings back memories of the scary stories that they heard as children about getting lost in the woods or being kidnapped by trolls, but they overcome their fears and make it to the water. They discover four rowboats tethered to an old and rickety dock, and they all row away into the distance. The rain comes, and ducks do their thing, but they leave the forest happy and safe. The song implies that things may not always go the way we expect them to, but if we keep an open mind and let ourselves be enchanted, we might leave a place a little happier than before.
