2.The ever-growing roots of hip hop music have sprouted many styles and sub-genres, embracing other forms of music in her immeasurable bosom to form a tapestry of music far too complex to put a finger on. From its loud introduction in the late 70s, hip hop has the art of change down to a science. From conscious rap to gangsta rap, hip hop has sported many titles. But just as the culture has changed, so has its artists. However, her latest offspring, P.D.A, is..something else.
Born May 20 1984, to Reba McGuffey, Anthony Jenkins become very proficient in music composition and performance very early. While P.D.A.'s story is not riddled with tales of violence, abusive childhoods or inner-city angst, the musical origin of this Tulsa, Oklahoma native is not a-typical of his hip hop brethren.
At the age of 13 he joined the Tulsa Youth Opera and performed in many off Broadway productions such as Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Aida. P.D.A's (which means Public Display of Afflection) love for music didn't stop there. He developed an instant appreciation for all genres of music. Some of his idols include Jim Croce, DJ Quik, Jody Gnant, Timbaland, Nancy Sinatra, and Billy Ocean. Just like hip hop, he began to weave these influences together to form his unique rap style. By the age of 14, he knew that he wanted a career in the music industry, but he never knew what for.
P.D.A continued to rap for the next few years but never took the genre seriously until about age 17. On his journey to get an album recorded, he came across Big Wolf Entertainment which accepted him into their family of artists, writers and producers. After a year or so with BWE and no progress, P.D.A. decided he needed to break away from the company. He took his ideas and music and started his own company named Squaresoft, after his favorite video game company that switched names. The first artist he signed on SS was Trip C, a rap/rock artist that he met while working at BWE, they formed a musical partnership and has performed for thousands all over the Midwest opening for people such as Tech N9ne, and Twiztid (among others). He produced and helped write the TripC album Flush Please and it soon became the first album released on SS Productions. the album has sold hundreds of copies around the Midwest and is being played on local radio stations. The second artist he signed on to Squaresoft was a skilled kid by the name of Kawnar, well beyond his years in recording and performance.. P.D.A. saw this and accepted him into his family, they are both currently working on finishing up Kawnar's first release under SS, Pandora's Box. Now P.D.A. was on the right path, he met up with Kansas City, MO Artist, Phantom and after hearing his unique production and lyrics.. signed him.
On his journey to finishing up his sophomore album Act I - The Next Concept, P.D.A. realized that he wouldn't be able to release the album as he intended, since some of the artists on it were with the last studio he was with.. "...the album has always been a curse." So he scrapped the 25 some tracks he had completed for it.. As for what P.D.A. is doing now? He has been producing for some of the hottest people in the game right now, like Phillipian, Monkey Block, Trauma, Infamous, J-Life, Tra-G, Big Hank, and just singed on to work on JaQuay's new album. He is also in the studio working (and almost done with) his third album "Act II - A Different Victim" ..a very strange and mood filled album. As it seems now, even when beat up and kicked, P.D.A. will always stand, and never stop. P.D.A.'s unique style promises to breathe much needed life back into a genre that seems to be dying at her roots.

Get Together
P.D.A. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It is the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Make the angels cry
You need not know why
Come on people, now
Let's get together
Smile on your brother
Try and love one another right now, yeah
Some may come and some may go now
We will surely pass
When the one that left us here, yeah
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading on the grass
Come on people, now
Let's get together
Smile on your brother
Try and love one another right now, yeah
Love is but the song we sing
It is the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Make the angels cry
Now the dove is on the wing
You need not know why
Come on people, now
Let's get together
Smile on your brother
Try and love one another right now, yeah
Come on people, now
Let's get together
Smile on your brother
Try and love one another right now, yeah
Come on people, now
Let's get together
Smile on your brother
Try and love one another right now, yeah
The lyrics of P.D.A.'s song Get Together are a call to unity, love and brotherhood, a message that is as relevant today as it was when the song was released in the 1960s. The song strikes a universal chord, as it reminds us that despite our differences, we all share the same human experiences of love, loss, and mortality. The first verse suggests that love is an essential part of the human experience, as it is the music that accompanies us throughout our journey in life, including the moment of our death. The lines "you can make the mountains ring, make the angels cry, now the dove is on the wing, you need not know why" evoke the powerful emotional impact that love can have, as it can move mountains and stir the souls of even the divine beings. The dove, a symbol of peace and love, is also a reminder that love is inherently good and benevolent, and does not require any explanation or justification.
The chorus of the song is a simple yet powerful call to action, inviting people to set aside their differences and "get together" in a spirit of brotherhood and love. The repetition of the phrase "smile on your brother, try and love one another right now" reinforces the idea that love is not just an abstract concept, but something that can be put into action through our words and deeds. The second verse acknowledges the transience of life and the inevitability of death, but also reminds us that we are all connected by this common fate. The line "we are but a moment's sunlight fading on the grass" captures the fragility and ephemerality of human existence, and yet suggests that our brief lives can be meaningful and significant.
Overall, P.D.A.'s Get Together is a timeless anthem of love and unity, a message that is as relevant today as it was half a century ago. The song's uplifting melody and poetic lyrics are a testament to the enduring power of music as a medium of expression and connection.
