Ride
P.H.I.L. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you love me you'll take my hand
As we enter this darkness
It's you and me against the world
And I would cut it out, hand it too you be heartless
Cause it's yours to keep, it's yours forever, it's yours if you want it
But if I sign on that dotted line, there's no coming back
There's no returning
Will you ride or die
Man, I fall in love at the worst times
Lovin' you put me in a curse line but you'll never know
Thinking bout things like you do not love yourself
Tell you I just want you cause of your wealth
You know that, you know that you
See you know that you love me, too
If I sign on the dotted line girl will you make my dreams true
Cause I know that you want me, too
Yeah, I know that you love me, too
So if I sign on the dotted line will my dreams come true
Will they come true
Will they come true
I hope they come true
Cause I need you ooh
Girl I need you
Will they come true
Girl there's no foolin' you
I know by now I'm in love with you
You ain't got time to be runnin' game
Girl you ain't got time to be the same no
I know that you love me, too
Cause I know that you care bout me
Or you wouldn't do what you do
I feel like you batter me, feel like you need me
Feel like you want me, feel like I know
I'm battered enough for you to love and then for you to let go
I do know that it's true girl cause the truth will let pain go
The love is not gon' change but girl I cannot go
Girl I can not go
No returnin'
Will you ride or die
Said will you
Will you ride or die
When it's all over
When it's over now
When the sun goes down
When the sun shines baby
Will you ride or die
Til the sun shines baby
Will you be

Right by my side
Til the sun shines baby

Overall Meaning

The song "Ride" by P.H.I.L. talks about the struggles of living in the ghetto and trying to make it out through perseverance and hard work. The lyrics convey a sense of defiance against the laws and the government that do not protect the people living in the streets. The first verse talks about the singer's dream of becoming a millionaire to break out of his harsh reality in the ghetto. He wants to get rid of all his enemies and gain respect from "the real" people.

In the second verse, P.H.I.L. talks about the pains of hunger and poverty in the ghetto. He imagines himself living in a luxurious house with fancy cars and making a lot of money from hustling. P.H.I.L. challenges the laws and questions the government's motives for not protecting famous rappers like Biggie and Tupac. He acknowledges the dangers of living in the streets where one is always in danger of getting caught by the cops or becoming a victim of gang violence.

The chorus portrays the idea of unity and solidarity among the people living in the ghetto world. P.H.I.L. believes in the strength of coming together to fight against oppression and injustice. The song overall gives a voice to those who choose to hustle for a better life despite being at a disadvantage.
