Rockin' With The Best
P.O.D. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let us begin, what where, why or when
I take offense to pussycats hanging in the lion's den
All trends, second-hand versions
A knock-off imitation, my echo in the wind
I remember when, when this music meant something
And these rappers weren't fronting but now they all bluffing
Not about nothing, no resumés and no dues
Nobody heard KRS, he was talking to you
In about four seconds a new teacher is gon' speak
I think we need my philosophy part two and three, so take it from me
All I need is a baseline, feedback from a guitar
I did 'em all with one rhyme

Who rocks the party, that rocks the body?
I rock the party, that rocks the body
You rock the party, that rocks the body
(You're now rockin' with the best)
Who rocks the party, that rocks the body?
I rock the party, that rocks the body
You rock the party, that rocks the body
(You're now rockin' with the best)

As good as it gets from past to present tense
Mp3s on iPhones to tapes in cassette decks
From what's hot now to what's next, no special effects
I'm on another level, too memorable to forget
Poetically phonetic, got you open for discussion
My left-minded logic controlling right brain function
Imagination inside me, all in all
Where music and art create three dimensional forms
Not to mention one over four, quarter century or more
We've been rockin' on tour for y'all p-pleasure
So, ah, la—dee—dah-dee, don't mean to be so cocky
But everybody and their mommy know who cold rocks the party

Who rocks the party, that rocks the body?
I rock the party, that rocks the body
You rock the party, that rocks the body
(You're now rockin' with the best)
Who rocks the party, that rocks the body?
I rock the party, that rocks the body
You rock the party, that rocks the body
(You're now rockin' with the best)

You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the best
You're now rockin' with the

Who rocks the party, that rocks the body?
I rock the party, that rocks the body

You rock the party, that rocks the body
(You're now rockin' with the best)

Overall Meaning

In "Rockin' With the Best," P.O.D. rails against the state of modern hip hop music. The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the verse: "Let us begin, what where, why or when / I take offense to pussycats hanging in the lion's den." The lyricist is declaring that he is about to speak on something important, and he takes issue with lesser rappers trying to infiltrate and diminish the power of the more serious artists. He longs for a time when hip hop "meant something" and rappers "weren't fronting," referencing KRS-One's "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone" as an example of this type of meaningful message.

Throughout the song, P.O.D. asserts that they are the ones truly "rockin' with the best," delivering memorable, thought-provoking, and substantive lyrics. The chorus confirms their status as leading the pack, with lead singer Sonny Sandoval repeating, "Who rocks the party, that rocks the body? / I rock the party, that rocks the body / You rock the party, that rocks the body / (You're now rockin' with the best)." The second verse continues with critiques of modern music, declaring that P.O.D. is "on another level" and "too memorable to forget."

Deserves way more views. This band deserves more credit. They’ve been here way longer than most bands and will be here long after most go. They are a 1992 icon.
