Everybody
P. Everett McPartland Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's a liquid sky in blue moon
The moon is falling down to the pool
Welcome to my biggest ball
Please to meet you, don't say a word
Come along, it's a bisquit time
Bisquit time and a feeling fine
Everybody do the monkey in a hall
It's a liquid sky down by the pool
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
There's a girl with a nerves of gold
Ringing to my telephone
Unknown body at the Millbourn street
Lying on, wearing pinky shades
Attorney Jim is teasing me
See no reason to pay his fee
Me and the girl with the nerves of gold
Drive a pink jeep down through the mall
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
Now there is no sense at my home
The dog is pissing on my telephone
Mr Ely from my neighbourhood
is lying on his day-off all alone
My roommate is drinking gasoline
Being quiet and feeling clean
Come along it's a bisquit time
Bisquit time and a feeling fine
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"
Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"

Everybody need somebody, somebody to say "You're dummy"
Everybody need somebody, someone to call "My honey"

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Everybody" by P. Everett McPartland are cryptic and seem to be loosely connected images and scenes, rather than telling a coherent story. The song starts with a description of a "liquid sky" and a "blue moon" falling into a pool, creating a surreal and dream-like atmosphere. The singer then invites the listener to a "biggest ball" and promises a good time with the phrase "bisquit time and a feeling fine." The chorus repeats several times, emphasizing that "everybody needs somebody" to call them "dummy" or "honey."

The second verse introduces more characters and settings, such as a girl with "nerves of gold" who calls the singer's telephone, an attorney named Jim who is teasing him, and a pink jeep driving through a mall. These disparate elements seem to suggest a fragmented, surreal world where people are disconnected and searching for connections with others. The final verse adds more absurd details, such as a dog urinating on a telephone and a roommate drinking gasoline.

Overall, "Everybody" creates a trippy and disjointed world full of colorful characters and odd occurrences. While there isn't a clear narrative or message, the repetition of the chorus suggests that even in this surreal, fragmented world, human connection and validation are still important needs.
