THE LIFE & MUSIC OF P. MURRAY
For the last few decades, the Pop & R&B music scenes have evolved tremendously. The span of variety now ranges widely, from R&B artists with a rugged and edgy sound, to pop artists who incorporate hip hop into their music. However, today it seems most artists produce the same catchy tunes and hooks, with their only intention of selling records. Fortunately, there still exists a breed of artists who not only can produce an infectious tune, but are committed to preserving the integrity and the true art of singing. P. Murray belongs to that breed.
P. Murrayâs voice can be described as precise, clear, soft and rich, yet powerful, which produces an overall smooth sound. Murray, who is originally from Breezy Point, NY, began playing the piano at age five and started singing at age nine. His talent was greatly supported by his close-knit family, which led him to pursue his talents via private instruction & specialized schools. These included F.H. LaGuardia HS for Music & Art and the Performing Arts in New York City, often referred to as the "Fame" school, which claims alumni like Kelis, Marlon Wayans, Omar Epps, Adrian Grenier, Bridget Kelly, Wynter Gordon, and Nicki Minaj. P. made a point of continuing his education and takes pride in his Bachelor's Degree for Vocal Performance from the Catholic University of America under the instruction of its Vocal Department Chair, Sharon Christman, a veteran classical soprano who has sung in Opera houses across the country including the Met.
P. Murrayâs impressive technical experience and range are evidenced throughout his work. It's obvious he draws his inspiration from multiple genres, including pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and classical music. Having grown up listening to artists like Michael Jackson, James Taylor, Babyface, and the Beatles, as well as work from composers like Mozart and Leonard Bernstein, Murray finds little difficulty in connecting with various audiences. While first a singer & performer of his original material , mixtape tracks like "Now I Know (written to Kanye West & Cam'ron's âDown & Outâ),â as well as highly praised remixes to Chris Brown's âTransform Yaâ & Nicki Minaj's âRight Thru Meâ prove that his flair for Hip-Hop music & culture is a mainstay in his music.
With accolades from well-known writers/producers such as Teron Beal (M.J., Bonnie Raitt, Mya), Lil' Eddie, and Eritza Laues (112, MJ, Blu Cantrell, Paula Abdul), and ground-breaking established artists including Grammy award-winning artist Brandy and Ledisi, a 2-time Grammy nominee, P. Murray feels confident in his path towards a steady and enjoyable career in an often-times volatile industry. At present, he is working with or has placed songs/production with amazing talents such as singer/writer/actor Chester Gregory (Dreamgirls Nat'l Tour, Crybaby, The Jackie Wilson Story), SteffNasty of the BeatBangghaz (Trey Songz), J Reed & Chris G. of the R&B Commission, SeanMichael Rodgers of HarlemBoy University (EMBRACE TV Network, Uptown Live NYC Showcase), and singer/songwriter Kimberly Nichole. Future work & collaborations will hopefully include hip-hop artist Archie Eversole and Tony-Award winner Adriane Lenox.
P. Murrayâs most recent projects, the debut EP's "First Draft: First & Second Edition" have already made their mark in the industry as a fresh new sound that fans everywhere are both applauding and promoting. Business tastemakers, bloggers, and creators alike have all agreed that these two 6-song projects (the first being available for sale on all major internet distribution outlets, the second a free download from the P. Murray website) are an exceptional foretaste of what's to come from this multi-faceted musician. When asked how he was able to pull off the First Draft media movement, P. has said only that he loves what he does and that âit's all about the dedication to what you're doing; if you want to make it work, it will, but the key word is 'Work.â Itâs this dedication to the art of music which will build longevity to his career, and what seems to be what music lovers have been waiting on for some time.
"This is me...this is all I am, and this is all I have...music." -- P.

Game ain't shit without us, but it's ok!
No, you can't live without us, it's ok!
But go ahead, you can doubt us, it's ok!
Niggas talk shit about us, but it's ok!
Game ain't shit without us, but it's ok!
No, you can't live without us, it's ok!
Checks get cut after the clearance
But what we dealing with is hard work and perseverance
Still send a nice ransom note to your parents
I'ma wrap this bitch till it needs some ball bearings
Trying to renovate the west wing of the mansion
I ain't thinking recession, I'm thinking expansion
I be in the malls
But my chain is dancing
More than 200 on the dash?
I'ma tear it
But you ain't gotta be nice
Pass off for parents
44 mag is the last thing you hearing
If the work don't make it, that's a pass interference
Shots of tequila, spending car money at the jeweler
Spending house money at the dealer
Rubber bag of piff
Sour need a sealer
Wanna see a real nigga?
I just look into the mirror.

In P. Murray's song "It's OK," the lyrics convey a message of confidence, defiance, and resilience in the face of adversity. The repetition of the phrase "Niggas talk shit about us, but it's ok!" emphasizes the idea that the opinions of others do not define or diminish the value of oneself. The line "Game ain't shit without us, but it's ok!" suggests that those who are often underestimated or overlooked are actually essential to the success of any given situation.
The lyric "Checks get cut after the clearance, but what we dealing with is hard work and perseverance" touches on the hard work and effort put in by those who are often doubted, and their ability to persist and succeed against all odds. The references to expensive material possessions such as Ralph Lauren everything, Cartier frames, and luxury vehicles, seem to be a nod to the idea that while success and wealth are often equated with material items, they are still attainable and deserved by those who work hard and believe in themselves.
Overall, the message of the song is one of self-love and resilience, encouraging listeners to believe in themselves and not let the opinions of others bring them down.
