After the split of Daryll-Ann, Paulusma resurfaced with an experimental and rather dark solo album entitled Here We Are (2006).
The second Paulusma studio album, 2008's iRecord, was generally received by music critics as a pleasant surprise: a lush, more melodic, graciously arranged album with a distinct sixties/westcoast pop feel. Further Paulusma albums saw the light of day in 2011 (Up On The Roof, on PIAS), 2014 (Pulling Weeds, on Excelsior Recordings) and early 2019 (Somehow Anyhow, also on Excelsior).
Ready To Go
PAULUSMA Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What's goin′ on
How come a pretty girl like you
Is always gettin' into trouble
Reelin' on the corner
The city at night
Is all you′re doin′ here
How about love
Just a little love
Hey somethin′
What do you know
There might be over'bout a dozen situations
Where you′d wanna go
Try just a little
More 9 to 5
Instead of hangin' on that corner
′Stead of gettin' into trouble
Lookin' for love
Are you ready to go
Sweet nothin′
The fabulous life
Walk the streets
Until the early mornin′ light grows cold
Ready to go
Hey somethin'
What do you know
There might be over ′bout a dozen situations
Where you'd wanna go
Ready to go
The lyrics to PAULUSMA's song Ready To Go are about a woman who seems to always be getting into trouble and is waiting for love to come around. The song opens with the line "Sweet nothing, what's going on," suggesting that the subject of the song has little going on in her life. She is seen "reelin' on the corner" at night, waiting for love to come her way. The lyrics suggest that while she may be doing nothing wrong, her situation is not ideal.
The chorus of the song suggests that the woman needs to try "just a little more 9 to 5" and avoid getting into trouble. This line implies that it is possible for her to turn her life around if she makes the effort to do so. The second verse reinforces this idea, repeating the line "there might be over 'bout a dozen situations where you'd wanna go." The woman needs to recognize that there are other opportunities for her, and she needs to be ready to take them.
Overall, the song is a call to action for the woman to recognize her situation and take advantage of other opportunities. The lyrics suggest that she can turn her life around if she is willing to make changes and take a chance.
