For the summer
The sun will bring back
Treasures for us
Come on my friend
Drink to good times
Golden wishes
You come through
For me
You come true
For me
You be well
For me
You come through
For me
I'll be lifted
On this our holiday
I'll take you my friend
I'll take you with me
You come through
For me
You come true
For me
You be well
For me
You come through
For me
The opening lines of the song “You Come Through” by PJ Harvey express a sense of anticipation for the impending arrival of summer. The summer season is something to look forward to because it brings with it a bounty of precious gifts and cherished moments. “The sun will bring back / Treasures for us”, Harvey sings, suggesting that the arrival of summer signals a time for rebirth and renewal. The next lines address a friend, inviting them to drink to good times and make a toast to their health. The use of the word “golden” to describe their wishes adds to the sense of anticipation and excitement surrounding the arrival of summer.
The chorus of the song provides a simple yet powerful message. The singer is grateful for the presence of her friend in her life. “You come through for me / You come true for me / You be well for me / You come through for me”, Harvey sings, repeating the same words over and over. The repetition creates an almost hypnotic effect, emphasizing the importance of the message. The final lines of the song suggest that the singer intends to enjoy the new season in the company of her friend. “I’ll take you my friend / I’ll take you with me”, she promises, strengthening the bond between them.
