PnB Rock hails from Pastorius and Baynton Streets in the Germantown section of Philadelphia β thatβs where he found the βPβ and βBβ in his name. Thatβs also where he found himself in a bit of trouble.
When Rock was 13 years old, he got sent away to a youth detention program for fighting in school and committing robberies. When Rock turned 19, he was sent to prison; it was there where he learned to blend calming melodies with hard street stories.βThere were people up there singing in the yard. They were doing the same thing that I was doing, but they were serious with it,β he remembers. βThere would be crowds around them and that was our entertainment, everybody loved it.β PnB wrote his entire first mixtape RNB (Real Nigga Bangaz), while he was locked up and eventually released in 2014. βMy first mixtape was highly anticipated in my city and I drove around selling them hand-to-hand,β he says, remarking that he barely made any money off the sales after he factored in the cost of gas. βIt was all love because people got to take pictures and meet me face-to-face.β
The bubbling singer/songwriter explored his musical side; a side which was fueled by his motherβs massive CD collection which included albums from the Temptations as well as 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay Z. βMy whole life I was surrounded by music. I didnβt really like anything else,β he says. βI didnβt watch cartoons, I didnβt play sports, I just liked music, money and girls.β
When RNB2 dropped in February 2015, Rockβs loyal following had propelled him way past his native Philly blocks. It was enough to earn the attention of a number of major labels, including Atlantic Records, where PnB Rock signed earlier this year.
If RNB and RNB2 laid the foundation, PnBβs newly released RNB3 will set the stage for a long career. Led by tracks like βFleekβ β a song which Rock wrote during his last day in prison and now has over 2.4 million plays on SoundCloud β RNB3 will be PnB Rockβs biggest yet.
On the Sonny Digital-produced βAlone,β he opens up about his shortcomings as a man, admitting that he hasnβt been the most faithful. βMaybe I could turn down 10, but I canβt turn down 20,β he sings about the amount of advances he gets on social media.
Then there are his more laid back tracks like βFeelin Like Diddyβ and βNo Time,β better known as the ultimate hustlerβs anthem. βIβm just telling a female that I could give you whatever you want, but Iβm not trying to be tied down,β he says. βI could entertain you and fuck with you, but donβt expect me to be committed to nobody. Iβm committed to the grind.β
You see, when it comes to PnB Rock, itβs best to leave the flowers and candy behind. You wonβt be needing them. βI got a new sound for sure,β he says. βI could touch different topics that these other artists canβt touch, because Iβm in the streets.β
On September 12, 2022 PnB Rock died in a shooting at Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles after his girlfriend posted their location on an Instagram story.

I can't take it no no
You keep interruptin' my flexin'
Who you think you checkin'?
Girl, you could go get the steppin'
'Cause I can't take it no no (no, no)
Why you always askin' all these questions?
Thinkin' about what I'm finna say now
This is startin' to be everyday now
Girl, you got me and you know it so just don't trip
And don't be textin' askin' questions about no hoe shit
'Cause when you ask, that's when it all falls down
If it's meant to be, time will tell
And we was doin' good if you asked me
'Til you start askin' about Tiffany and Ashley
Said you seen my car and we drove right passed you
You said I ain't gettin' nothin' pass you
You keep on askin' me questions about who I'm textin' and about who I'm sexin'
I can't take it no no
You keep interruptin' my flexin'
Who you think you checkin'?
Girl, you could go get the steppin'
'Cause I can't take it no, no
No more questions
No more questions
Why you always askin' these questions
Like you my PO girl you got a nigga stressin'
Thinkin' about what I'm finna say now
We been goin' through this everyday now
We was good if you asked me
Hit it from the back you was callin' me daddy
Till you start askin' about Tiffany and Ashley
That's when shit start gettin' nasty
You keep on askin' me questions about who I'm textin' and about who I'm sexin'
I can't take it no, no
You keep interruptin' my flexin'
Who you think you checkin'?
Girl, you could go get the steppin'
'Cause I can't take it no, no
You keep on askin' me questions about who I'm textin' and about who I'm sexin'
I can't take it no no
You keep interruptin' my flexin'
Who you think you checkin'?
Girl, you could go get the steppin'
'Cause I can't take it no, no
The lyrics to "Questions" by PNB Rock address the issue of a partner's jealousy and constant questioning. The singer feels like they are being interrogated about every little thing and can't even enjoy their own life without interruptions. The line "Girl you could go get the steppin'" suggests that the singer has had enough and is ready to end the relationship.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses their stress and frustration caused by their partner's lack of trust. The line "Like you my PO girl you got a nigga stressin'" compares the partner to a probation officer, further emphasizing the feelings of being constantly monitored and questioned.
The chorus also alludes to the idea that the constant questioning is threatening the stability of the relationship. The line "If it's meant to be, time will tell" suggests that the singer wants the relationship to grow naturally without pressure or suspicion.
Overall, the lyrics convey the message that a relationship built on trust and communication is necessary for it to thrive, and constant questioning and jealousy can be a hindrance to that.
