The lyrics of Kick Out The Jams by POTUS (The Presidents of the United States of America) are a rebellious call to action for rock and roll fans everywhere. The first verse speaks of the singer's duty to rock the audience until midnight, as is expected of a rockstar. He has a new look (as he has shaved off his perm) for his new term or tenure as a performer. He pledges to uphold the Constitution, which may be seen as a nod to the First Amendment and the freedom of speech. He then goes on to say that rock and roll is the solution to all problems and he just wants to be himself, unbridled and unapologetic, allowing him to kick out the jams without any restrictions. The second verse takes things a step further, as he proclaims that he has been chosen to travel to Mars in a rocket. He refers to someone he calls a "poodle in your pocket," which might be a euphemism for someone who is too uptight or too closely guarded. His message is, therefore, for those who need to let loose and follow him on a journey to outer space, where they can be free to be themselves and kick out the jams once more.
