Their music was my soundtrack through the past weeks. While I'm writing this I'm listening to their great soundtrack album 'Ferry cross the Mersey'. And the movie itself is great, too. Until I was 24 I had very bad asthma and when I was around 10 my mom took me to see this specialist at hospital on Community Drive in Manhasset for a series of allergic prick tests down my arms. One very late afternoon we were riding home to Syosset on the LIE and the radio was playing DLTSCYC. That was a turning point in my
appreciation of music. Such pretty, satiny sounds.

Of course, there was an audience, it's just, like with most live performances on Sullivan's show, the staff somehow got to audience from screaming during the music! And the engineers may have used directional pattern mics which were less sensitive to sounds off stage. LUCKY US!!

Yep, Beatles refused to have this song released, even though they did record it. George Martin told them it was a top hit, it was just too, too, pop for the Beatles. Jerry and the pacemakers used the Beatles arrangement and made it a giant hit. Doubt the Beatles were sorry they passed on this. Nice song.

Hardly, Gerry was in on the ground floor of the developing Mersey Sound in '62, a close second to the Fabs, in my opinion. Very similar style and song structure, but with piano instead of lead guitar. Of course, the Len/Mac juggernaut had yet to kick in fully. "How Do You Do It," penned by Mitch Murray, was the only song rejected by the Fabs that Gerry recorded.

@@retrowayne The Beatles did, in fact, record "How Do You Do It?" because George Martin thought it was a hit. In the end, he decided on "Love Me Do" as their first release. The Beatles version was not released until "Anthology" in 1995.
